"You took it from evidence?" His eyes were wide- not with surprise, she realized, but amusement as he watched her finger the delicate silver chain, nails snagging on the old links as she pulled the Blue Butterfly from beneath her jacket. Hidden from sight for years it had only been slightly tinged by time and not ravaged, dust barely dulling the brilliant sparkle of what they now knew were fake diamonds. Fake, yet the mystery and the deaths surrounding the piece were still so real, his mind resonated with the intensity of it.
"I logged it out to prove a point." Her hand was warm as she slid it into his, rubbing her thumb gently over his while she reached to press the hold button. They were alone in an elevator, suspended above hundreds of unsuspecting law enforcement professionals whose lives progressed only as theirs stopped with the touch of her finger on the 'hold' button. "You seem to have all the bad luck, Castle, coming into contact with every curse we uncover these days."
"I-" His adams apple bobbed as Castle swallowed deep, eyes locking on her manicured thumb as it rubbed circles on his flesh, echoes of times past. "I guess I'm just lucky like that."
"More than you know, Castle. More than you know." She pressed against him like her thumb on the button, although unlike it she was firm and frantic, fingers curled into the lapel of his jacket and pulling him into her. It was channeling the finest moments in movie history, feeding off hours of romantic gestures and romance novels to bring to her writer the deepest desires of his once hesitant muse. It was in the kiss that she gave a thousand kisses and only then did she feel like she was really letting go of all the times she'd wanted to and never could.
Like Vera and Joe- she'd take what she wanted, and not a soul could bring her down.
