So here is something I just came up with.
The room was dark. It contained a table and a chair that I sat on, opposite me there was a one way window. "I will ask you to do a great deal," the distorted voice said. I could only imagine that he was watching me from the other side. "Somewhere in space there is a planet called Chorus, which is currently in a civil war. Your job will be to ensure it does not end and that everyone on the planet is dead." My eyes widened slightly upon hearing that. "I will provide you with weapons and equipment to assist you in completing the task and if you succeed I will grant you all the money you could possibly want."
I nodded, the only reason I accepted this deal was for the money. Ever since I was discharged from the UNSC it had become difficult to find a job. "When do I start?" I asked.
"You will be sent there on a ship in a month, in the meantime you will train at a base on Earth and will be told the details of the assignment. As you leave can you let the next person in," I got up to leave but he called out. "Oh and miss Moon, I saw your file, you will be a great asset to this operation."
I looked up from my book, it was the tenth day of our two week voyage to Chorus and I had been told that 36 people were employed by the mystery man and an extra two were added to be our commanders, but I had only met two. All 36 of us were to report directly to them, rumours had already been started that they knew who our employer was. As for me I did not care for who it was I was just glad I was getting paid, even if the work was borderline genocide, the idea made me sick but I had to do what ever I could.
There was a knock on the door and the door opened revealing soldier in black and orange "Moon," he said.
I stood up "Felix, Sir"
He shook his head "you don't need the formalities. Get your armour on and head over to the briefing room, control is going to tell us what we are doing on the rock." He then closed the door and a few seconds later I heard a loud knock on the door next to mine. I opened the locker in my room and took the armour out and laid it on my bed ready for me to use it.
I opened the door to the meeting room on the ship, there were rows of chairs that all faced a computer screen. The room was only half full but the commanders of the operation were standing near the screen looking impatient the one in black and green looked at me. "Moon," he said in a deep voice that almost made me shiver. "Nice of you to finally join us," I nodded and took my designated seat.
Once every other soldier arrived Felix spoke up, "Okay, for those who do not know, you are all here because Control wants to tell you what is going to happen when we get to Chorus." He stood back as the screen lit up.
"Good evening," came the same distorted voice that requited me months ago, "I am sure that many of you would like to know more about your mission. Well, allow me to clear things up. Once this ship arrives to Chorus you are to establish bases near alien temples for the science teams to study." An image of a futuristic tower appeared on the screen. "Along with the study of alien technology, over the months there will be more and more structures built which will produce equipment and weapons based on the equipment from Project Freelancer and the aliens'."
A soldier spoke up, "How long will this operation take?"
"It is unknown how long this will last, but it will last as long as it takes. If this is rushed and the two armies discover our presence they will attempt to inform Earth and the mission will be a failure, speaking of which, radio jammers will be deployed across the planet and all frequencies will be monitored for suspicious activities. The first few months will not have any interference and soldiers will study both sides of the war to gather intelligence. Felix will infiltrate The New Republic while Locus will gain the trust of the Federal Army of Chorus. Remember, the mission is to ensure the conflict lasts as long as possible and that no one is left alive on that planet."
Locus stepped forward, "you are all dismissed." The computer screen shut off as each soldier filed out of the room. I thought to myself 'I will never forgive myself for this.'
The first few months were difficult, after establishing a base in the alien temple the scientists and engineers got to work attempting to reactivate it while us soldiers went on recon and defence. Locus and Felix managed to join the two armies as mercenaries and are paid in alien weapons which is given to the scientists to study. Control was true to his word and gave us cloak equipment and has even began construction of weapons factories that use the alien technology that we find.
I had been tasked with spying on the New Republic, from what I discovered they were not as well trained as us but the numbers matched those in the Federal Army. It was as if the planet was split in half, every single person was in armour and even those not fighting wore it, even if this war ends I don't think the population will readjust back to civilian life.
I was currently cloaked inside the main base of the New Republic looking around using the scope of a sniper rifle. The base was deep underground in a cave with several structures that indicate different facilities. It was originally difficult to find this place since at the beginning the leader did not really trust Felix, I couldn't blame him Felix always had a sinister vibe around him, even more sinister than murdering an entire planet. There was a somewhat peaceful feeling watching these people without them knowing, I had the power to end their lives and they had no idea. It was like watching a television show, I could learn about them but then the next day they could all be dead. I shouldn't get attached to these people it could interfere with my objective.
The headset in my helmet buzzed, "Moon, come in over."
"I copy," I whispered back. I may have been far away but I couldn't risk anything.
"Orders are to return to base, you are going to be needed for another mission."
"Rodger," I replied. I put my sniper onto my back and climbed off the rock. Being invisible made it easy to sneak past the guards, so I returned back to base using a hidden mongoose by the caves.
Being alone truly was relaxing.
*Okay so this is my first try doing something OC so pardon me there, also I do not know how frequent updates will be but hopefully the next one will be in a few days. Please excuse the tensing in this if it seems a little off. *
*Thank you for reading :)*
