Bella and Edward have a strange relationship. They fight, they hurt each other, they are absolutely awful to each other. But they are the closest people. They need each other, and it won't be long before they realize that. The line between love and hate is often blurry to those in the middle of it.

We were like Tom and Jerry. Elizabeth Taylor and Dick Burton. Scarlett and Rhett.

We hurt each other, made each other impossibly angry. We picked at each other and always tried to knock the other one down. Our relationship was more like a war zone than anything else.

But at the same time, there was that mutual understanding that we needed each other. We were the same person, and no matter how malicious we could be to each other, we realized that. No matter how horrible we were, because the honest truth was that we were awful people, we had each other. If everyone else left, we'd never have to be alone.

We hated each other. We loved each other.
