Bedtime Stories
Kyoya Ootori / Chizuru Saito
"So, those two, huh?" The two maids tittered under their breath. They sighed as a rather adorable scene unfolded before them. In the Ootori household, two young heirs rested in one of the further corners of their shared playpen. They had wrapped their chubby little arms around each other, holding tight.
The two were still just around the tender age of five. They had met each other a couple months prior and immediately hit it off. The parents had been a tad worried, seeing as neither of their children were the outgoing type.
As soon as the silence could be cherished, it was broken. Screams bubbled out from the young master's throat. Tears and snot poured down his face. Young Kyoya kept one hand firmly fisting the fabric of Chizuru's new jumper, as the other reached for his beloved stuffed penguin she held precariously above them. She giggled all the while.
"Will he be alright? She seems a bit much for him." A stray server boy commented on his way past. It's funny how they never really wanted the toy until the other did.
"They'll grow to appreciate each other." A confident voice piped up from behind them. The workers nodded, before spinning to face the Saito family matriarch. Their faces bloomed in embarrassment. All three mouths tripped on apologies.
The aged woman merely offered a kind smile.
"They make a good pair, don't you think?" She motioned to the two children. By now, they had calmed down. Chizuru had allowed Kyoya to take 'Mr. Penguin' and picked up a giraffe in its absence. The two happily played out a scene between the animal friends.
The matriarch's presence was like a breathe of fresh air. The three servants settled into their work with gentle grins.
"We should be going, love." Mr. Saito appeared from the back room, Mr. Ootori trailing not far behind. Kyoya took but a moment to glance at his father, before returning to his playmate. It wasn't every day he got to see his best friend.
The three parents watched their children fondly. Even Mr. Ootori couldn't suppress a chuckle at the sight of his youngest grinning so unbelievably wide. Kyoya scrubbed at his wet cheeks, before abandoning Mr. Penguin to kidnap Geoffrey the Giraffe.
Mr. Saito stepped in before a new screaming match could occur. The children frowned at their respective parents. Despite being moments from another meltdown, the two clung to each other as if their lives depended on it.
Flash.
Kyoya and Chizuru blinked dazedly from the bright light. Their eyes gradually made out the hazy figures, glaring even more fiercely as they did. Well, as fiercely as a pair of snuggling five-year-olds could manage.
Another batch of flashes went off. Mr. Saito grinned dopily behind the camera. He was always a man for memories, and he would personally make sure these precious times were not forgotten.
The camera was quickly passed amongst the parents, releasing an array of 'ooh's and 'how cute's.
The children didn't care. They only huddled closer.
"What's this, Kyo-chan?"
I took three long steps over to Honey-sempai, before snatching the photo from his grasp. I swallowed down any blush creeping up my cheeks as I slipped it swiftly into my blazer pocket.
Chizuru peered up from her spot next to Haruhi, a question in her eyes. I refused to meet her gaze for long, shoving the rim of my glasses further up the bridge of my nose. She hummed suspiciously, before continuing her conversation.
I scribbled nervously down in my little black book. I didn't hear her come closer. I only noticed when a slender hand pushed its way between my book and I.
My eyes snapped to her. A familiar smirk played at my lips, but the embarrassment still swirled in my eyes. I nearly bit my own tongue off at the view of her smile.
"So, when's our next play date?"
