Fate's first long term assignment was coming up and she was getting nervous.
She knew what she signed up for when she decided to become an enforcer and had been on various missions in the past... just not one this long.
This would be the first time in awhile that she'd spend time off Earth.
"Fate-chan!"
A yell disrupted Fate's musing. She turned to see Nanoha excitedly running towards her. She barely had time to stutter, "N-Nanoha?" before the girl in question tackled her in a hug. The force of the tackle sent them both to the ground, falling on the soft white snow.
Ah... the heat radiating from Nanoha's body contrasted sharply with the cold air surrounding them.
"Nanoha?" Fate repeated.
"Fate-chan, you didn't tell me you were going to leave!" Nanoha complained. "If you told me, we could... could have done something!"
She smiled apologetically. "S-sorry... but I'm not going to leave until tomorrow. So, we still have time to do something if you want."
Nanoha hurriedly got to her feet and helped Fate to hers. "We can't waste any time then!"
Fate couldn't help but giggle a little at Nanoha's determined face. "Okay, where to first?"
Their first stop ended up being an arcade.
Fate remembered the first time she had ever went inside an arcade... and now she thought about it, this was the same place. Did Nanoha choose this place on purpose?
It had been just after the Book of Darkness incident, Hayate hadn't been able to come but they had fun nonetheless. She remembered how her face stared at the various machines with a mix of curiosity and amazement.
This time was no less fun.
They went from one machine to the next, trying to beat the other's score but as usual, Fate could barely keep up with Nanoha. When it came to video games, no one could challenge the White Devil.
The next stop was at the movie theatre.
They were just passing by when Nanoha realized they hadn't been to a movie together in awhile.
It took a few minutes but in the end they decided to go watch the mecha action movie. Nanoha did have an interest in mecha and Fate found such things enjoyable herself.
The movie itself was good and kept them on the edge of their seats.
Next was a fast food joint.
Both girls were hungry after a day running around town and they were a little strapped for cash after blowing most of it on video games and the movie.
Even though this kind of food was fattening, it was okay to eat it once in awhile. Besides, Nanoha always got cranky when she was hungry and Fate liked Nanoha best when she was happy and smiling.
And this was their last stop, a snowy hill that looked over Uminari City.
Fate couldn't help but smile as she saw the sunset on the place she had come to call home. This sight, it was simply... "It's beautiful," Fate mumbled.
"When we were eating I remembered that I never took you here before. I used to come here in the mornings to practice my magic, it's just as beautiful when the sun is rising," Nanoha stood right beside Fate, her hands with behind her back.
"Ah... I'm really going to miss Uminari city."
"Then come back as soon as possible. If you take too long I'll get mad," Nanoha puffed out her cheeks.
"I will, I'll finish the mission and be back before you know it," Fate said determinedly.
"Promise?" Nanoha held out her pinky finger.
Fate entwined her own pinky with Nanoha's. "Promise."
It was just a small promise but Fate had taken it as seriously as if it was a solemn oath.
Because... because she wanted to spend more time with everyone... with Nanoha.
A/N:
I'd been planning on writing a NanoFate multi-chapter fic for some time now so I hoped this would help motivate me to start writing it.
It's been quite awhile since I churned out a fic, hopefully this wasn't too bad.
