A/N- I just love how the Effie and haymitch fan-fiction pages are expanding! I remmemeber how there was once only three and I could read all of them but now with seven I can't keep up!
Effie and Haymitch never got along, not even when they worked side by side. After the rebellion everything changed. Everything. Their relationship and their feelings for each other had changed drastically too. Both hurt by the capitol, Haymitch in his games and Effie captured and tortured by her own people for information.
During her stay in district thirteen she thought and thought about how it was her fault all this happened. SHE picked Prim's name and Katniss had voulentered out of love. SHE picked Peeta's name too. SHE accepted the job to be an escort for a district. How could she have said yes? Why? Yes of course Effie knew about the rebellion all along because even if they didn't get along Haymitch had trusted her enough with some information. Haymitch. The name echoed in her head. She felt something she never felt for him but couldn't figure what it was. He and her had a love/hate relationship but deep down she knew she couldn't stand seeing him in pain. Those day on the train he would drink and drink to forget but it seemed he never did. When he went to sleep he had nightmares and he would scream so loud she would wake from her own slumber. Now she understood him. His pain. Everything. And still after all this all she felt for him was love. He had rescued her from the Capitol. All that teasing and comforting when their tributes died had finally made her realized that she loved him.
Haymitch had been so busy with the rebellion that he didn't get the chance to visit Effie while she was in the hospital. After President Coin and Snow died, Effie had left. He caught a glimpse of her while Katniss was preparing to kill Snow. He saw her broken. Her scalp missing chunks of blond hair and her eyes vacant. After that he hurried to finish all his duties do he could go talk to her but by that time she had left. Flavius, Octavia, and Venia told him she had gone back to the Capitol to figure some things outs. He knew she would never come back to him. For all he knew was she would never be the same again. He rescued her because there was nothing he wouldn't do for her. He would give up his life for her to live. Yeah it was a big change from making fun of her Capitol ways but he had fallen for her.
