The Note
Hermia walked quickly down the path. It was dark and she was scared, but she had to get to Lysander's house. The trees were all around her looming over he like shadows. As if at any moment something from the woods could jump out at her. She walked fast her white dress blowing in the wind. Her hair blew back behind her and she pulled her cloak around her tightly to avoid the February wind.
It was Valentine's Day. And she was all upset. It was not fair. Why Did Helena have to be such a flirt? Seeing her walk in to the school house that day holding hands with Demetrius made Hermia so mad and jealous… well not jealous in a I-wish-he–was-mine kind of way, more in a I-want-someone–to-love–me-like-that-too kind of way.
Helena was her best friend she would never steal her boy friend. But being 12 was hard, Especially on valentine's day. And seeing Helena so in love had made up her mind… she had to tell him... even if it broad her heart.
She had liked Lysander for just about a year now. They sat next to each other in the one room school house; they talked about books, and had inside jokes. But she felt he only saw her as a friend and she wanted him as more than that.
Finally she had gotten to his house. She went up to the door and put the book down, knocked, then ran and hid in the bushes. Earlier that day they had been talking about Pyramis and Thisby and she had mentioned that she had a copy sitting at her house. Lysander had asked to borrow it... and here we are ...But what Lysander did not know was that in the book was a note a Note that said simply
I like you do you like me as more than a friend?
~ Hermia
Normally before she did something like this she would run to Helena and tell her first. But this time she did not. Helena was a very fragile girl. If Hermia had gone to her and told her this Helena would have accused her of trying to be just like her and come up with yet another... Crazy conspiracy theory.
So she had kept her plan to ask Lysander out to herself. She figured a secret boyfriends is fun. That is if he said yes. But what if he said no? What if he started hating her and their friendship was over? Oh Gods. This is why she should have told Helena. Helena was good at pep talks.
Hermia peaked around the corner of the bush. Then she heard a creaking sound and ducked back in. Lysander had heard her knock. She peered through the bushes and saw him pike up the book, a smile on his face. Then he closed the door. She got up and ran back down the path, now all she had to do was wait till her found the note. Her heart was beating fast and her trout closed up. All she could think was. What if he said no?
