He always left without a word, and she always struggled to find him. They ended up physically together, but she couldn't understand what he was thinking. He was always smiling, but she knew it was a fake smile. That he was trying to hide something. That someday, despite being physically together, their minds and souls would be completely separated. And indeed it happened.

When Gin was killed right in front of her, Rangiku let out a silent cry, not caring whether Aizen saw her or not, whether Aizen would kill her too or not. She didn't care. She ran to him and cried, begging him not to die. But he died. He died alone, trying to protect the most important person to him, but she wouldn't know about this. He had apologized to her for his selfish actions, but she would never understand.

She hugged his bloody body as it went cold and limb. She cried and cried, still begging him to say something, to stay with her, to not die. But he died. Days and weeks and months passed, yet she was still haunted by his death.

"Rangiku," he would call her in her dreams. "I love ya." Then he would walk away from her, in a path drenched with blood.

"Gin!" she would call out to him and stretch her arms out to reach him, but in an instant he would be so far away that she couldn't catch him. "Please... Don't leave me..."

"I'm sorry, Rangiku. See ya later..." and he would disappear altogether.

She would wake up from the dream with tears streaming down her cheeks. For months she had the same dream every night, and she was haunted. Stupid Gin... Why did you go and die off on your own? And she would start crying again. You could have at least told me something...

One night, she had a different dream.

"Rangiku," Gin was calling her. She felt warm even though it was just a dream. He was hugging her from behind.

"Gin?" she called his name in confusion.

"Yes, Rangiku. It's me," he said. "I'm sorry I made ya wait so long."

"Huh..." she was confused, but she was happy she could talk to the man she loved so much, even if it was just a dream.

"I guess I really shoulda told ya what I wanted to do..." he said.

"Gin," Rangiku said, afraid that she would wake up from this dream.

"I wanted to protect ya, Rangiku," he said, hugging her tighter.

"What are you talking about, Gin?" she asked with grief.

"The reason I sided with Aizen Taichou was to kill him," he answered. "Kill him for hurting ya."

"You're confusing me, Gin," she said.

"Long time ago, some random Shinigami attacked ya, and I followed 'em. I found out their leader was Aizen Taichou, and I decided I'd kill 'im for hurting ya."

"Gin, you..." she started crying.

"I love ya, Rangiku. I always have," and with these words, Rangiku woke up.

She was crying desperately. How had she not noticed? His face when he first fled to Hueco Mundo, and his reaction when she followed him to the real Karakura during the fight. How had she not noticed? Gin, the man she loved the most, was trying to protect her all along, and he had died with that noble purpose.

"Gin..." she whispered his name between her sobs. "Gin... Gin... Gin..." She kept repeating his name until her tears dried out.

The one who dies, and the ones who are left behind. These are the two types of people involved in death. Depending on the type of death that the person suffers, some might say that the one who dies suffer more. However, the ones left behind suffers for a longer time. They will always have an empty space in their hearts that cannot be filled.

I hope you liked it :)
