Freedom. That's what Kate Beckett felt: freedom.
The sniper that had shot her was most likely going to rot in jail for the rest of his life, she had quit her job (at least for a day or two), and she could finally put her mother's death behind her.
The rain that followed was almost cleansing. The water droplets clung to her skin and soaked her clothes. She closed her eyes and let the rain soak right through her while she sat on the same swing set she and Castle had, had the wall conversation seven months ago.
Breathing in the sweet smell the rain always left, the mending but still broken woman knew where she needed to be.
~O.o.O.o.O~
Rick was in no mood for company when he heard a knock at his door. His head was too full of thoughts of her. Of how much he loved her and how he had cried when he told her and begged her to stop looking into this. Of how scared he had been when Esposito had called him to ask if he had seen or heard from Kate, only to find her dangling off the roof of her apartment building. Of how relieved he was that they had caught that son-of-a-bitch, Cole Maddox. And of how much their lives were all going to change now. How could he have a proper conversation with somebody when all he could think of was her.
To his surprise he opened the door to reveal the woman he loved—soaking wet from the rain but more determined looking than he had ever seen her before outside of work.
Reaching for his face, Kate drew closer to him. He took a step back to allow her to enter the loft. They looked into each other's eyes for a brief moment before she crashed her lips to his desperately.
It was brief but they both felt the heat. She pulled back slowly—her eyes full of passion—and whispered, "I love you."
Then it was just like in Heat Wave; they flew to each other, mouths locking. His tongue was in her mouth and she couldn't get enough of it. Suddenly he was holding onto her even tighter, pushing her backwards until her body hit the door and it slammed shut.
Kate couldn't believe that she was pressed up against Richard Castle's door while he kissed her senseless. She moaned into his mouth, quickly losing it. He took her bottom lip between his teeth as she tugged on his hair.
"I love you," she repeated against his lips. Finally being able to say those words was something that made part of the world that she carried on her shoulders seem much lighter. She loved him and he loved her and nothing else really mattered in that moment.
"I love you too Kate. So much." His hands stroked her hair and ran along her cheek bones and jaw line—he simply breathed her in.
Freedom. That's what finally being together felt like: freedom.
