Actually, I was trying to write a 100-word challenge that gorengal started and I have to admit that I couldn't do it. But I tried and I thought and thought and then this came into my head. It is not 100 words and it has absolutely nothing to do with Wal-Mart or Reflections, Shadows, or Echoes. Hope you like it.
Friends
Earlier today, like so many times before.
Goren and Eames knocked on a suspect's door.
Bobby was sure that this little old man.
Killed his wife with his own hand.
She asked the questions while he paced the floor.
Like so many times before.
She heard a familiar sound.
And when she looked up her partner was down.
She fired her gun at the little old man.
He dropped to the floor, with the gun in his hand.
She is elated that he did not die.
Thanking God that they are both alive.
Bobby's wounds are not serious and he'll recover soon.
But she has trouble leaving his room.
She'll sit by his side all night if need be.
So when he opens his eyes it's her he'll see.
She sits quietly next to his bed.
Memories of seven years past run through her head.
She smiles and closes her eyes and remembers the first time they met.
An unusual character? Yes, which most people find hard to forget.
He was not like any cop that she had ever known.
He seemed to live in a world of his own.
It was hard for her to understand.
What he was thinking this seemingly intelligent man.
She remembers him poking and prodding the body of the dead.
She stood, watched and wondered what was going on his head.
His style of interrogating is very rare.
Sometimes it seems that he doesn't care.
But his morality and honesty is rarely seen.
Especially in today's world of the greedy and the mean.
Now she smiles when he does his thing.
Watching him work and making them sing.
She never would have believed after their first case.
That they'd still be partners. Hell, no one can take his place.
He opens his eyes and smiles when he sees.
His best friend, Alex Eames.
He reaches up and touches her hand.
She opens her eyes and smiles at the man.
"The doctor said."
"You'll have to spend a few days in bed."
"You're gonna be fine."
"You have to give it time."
He tries to speak. But he is too weak.
He closes his eyes and falls back to sleep.
She stands up and kisses his cheek.
She knows now that he'll be alright.
She can leave his side for the rest of the night.
She turns around just once more.
Before she opens the door.
Smiling at the man who does cause strife.
But he's her partner and her friend for life.
The End
