Shinji pulled the bed sheets back and then proceeded to lie down and pull the covers over his body. He decided upon which position to sleep in and made the necessary movement adjustments before closing his eyes. He didn't stay in that particular position for very long, however. For hours he tossed and turned, finding no comfort from the futon which his body was collapsed on. After what seemed like an eternity of restlessness, Shinji willed himself to sit up.
Several hours had, indeed, passed and the boy became aware of how early it was in the morning when he looked at the alarm clock nearby. The green glow of lines, which were arranged in different patterns to result in numbers on display, was a stark contrast to the dark room. That was not the only light source, however, for another form of light managed to creep into the room from underneath the door. He looked at the light and noticed that its colors were constantly changing.
Shinji - "Someone else must still be awake."
He began to walk towards the door even though his legs were not yet ready to support the weight of his body. After sliding the door open, he saw what was making the light: the television. He walked over to the television and turned it off.
Turning around, he noticed a small figure curled up on the couch and occasionally shivering. Crimson hair protruded from underneath the blanket which covered the figure. Shinji realized why Asuka was curled up when a breeze of cold air blew on him from the open door to the balcony.
Shinji - "How did this get opened?"
He didn't bother to find out the answer to his question and instead closed the door. Walking back over to Asuka, he decided that he would place her in her bed. He opened the door to her room, made his way over to her bed, and then pulled the covers back. He then returned to Asuka and, sliding one arm underneath her legs and the other under her back, he gently picked her up. Asuka's head was directed to rest against his shoulder as he silently carried her back into her room. With great care, he lowered her onto her futon and then pulled the covers over her to keep her warm. Finished with his task, Shinji couldn't help but look in awe at her beauty as she slept.
Shinji - "Goodnight, Asuka."
He bent down and kissed her tenderly on the lips. Asuka only made a small noise in response. A smile was permanently stuck on Shinji's face as he made his way out of the girl's room, closing the door behind him. He crawled back into his own bed and almost immediately closed his eyes, falling asleep. There was no need to change sleeping positions for the rest of the time afterwards because he was extremely comfortable.

Author's Notes: I am a helpless romantic, so writing this was enjoyable. This was a bit personal to me because my parents used to do this to me when I fell asleep anywhere else but my bed. What's funny is that at the time I wrote this, I couldn't sleep. However, after finishing this, I fell asleep on the couch soon after. What a coincidence...=)
