Hi, all.

Unfortunately, I haven't written anything of late. This is one of five oneshots that I've had floating around Tumblr for many moons. I can't figure out why I've never posted them before, but I've been in a strangely MWPP-era mood lately and figured I'd do some minor editing and share.

'He's doing this on purpose!'

Lily's grip tightened on her quill and her eyes narrowed on her parchment, valiantly trying to ignore the squeaking and humming coming from the obnoxious pest next to her. The seventh-year sighed and scribbled a few more lines.

Squeak.

She closed her eyes.

'Take a deep breath. In, out. In, out.'

Beating down the explosion that was gradually rising in the back of her throat, she cast a desperate look around for McGonagall. She was standing by Marlene's desk, checking over her parchment.

She wondered why McGonagall was letting him get away with it. He'd been doing it when she'd come to check his answers, too. And she'd given him a smile and awarded him ten points for being the first to correctly answer all the questions in the project! Where was the strict, unyeilding McGonagall that she'd come to know and love? She never would have let him get away with this.

Creak.

Lily snapped.

"WILL YOU STOP THAT, POTTER?! I'M TRYING TO CONCENTRATE!" She jumped out of her seat, glaring down at the bespeckled boy. He straightened up, the Hairy Hippogriffs song he'd been humming dying in the wake of an amused eyebrow being raised.

McGonagall turned a shrewd eye on her. "Detention for disrupting the test, Miss Evans. Get back to work."

Lily dropped back into her seat, cheeks flaming, and gave Potter a fierce glare as she picked up her quill. He responded by deliberately leaning back in his chair and smirking at her, folding his arms behind his head.

Squeak.

Lily twitched, turning back to her parchment.

As always, I would love to hear your thoughts.
