A/N: Hey guys! I know you're expecting me to update my other Foxface fic, but I had to get this down. It was an idea I had for My Life is Ending Now, but it doesn't fit with the outline that I have now. But I thought that I would share it with you guys anyway. :) This is my first songfic, so be nice.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own The Hunger Games or Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars.
I can't hold on much longer. The slash down my arm that Cato has given me is too deep. I have the bag labeled with my District, but all that's inside is food. Of course, it's good food. But not good for a dying, skinny, 4" 11' girl.
I run as fast as I can, though I wobble slightly, towards our rendezvous spot. The tall wheat almost tickles my nose, but I can see him. He's much taller.
I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, I'll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
He holds me tight, we both know that this is the end. I cry, and he's silent. It's not until I look up that I realize silent tears are streaming down his face.
"I-I'm sorry..." I manage to choke out. I know they're the the last words that I will ever say. There's no reason to talk, laugh, or do anything once he's gone.
I remember you said, Don't leave me here alone
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight...
Just close your eyes
I close my eyes as he strokes my hair, and we're both still crying. But I become quiet. And the tears stop landing on my face.
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe & sound...
When I wake up, it's daytime. But I'm lying on the ground, with cold arms around me. I look up, and it's the empty eyes that do it.
I run away, as far as I can, and the tears are back. I realize that I have no supplies. The Careers are out of food, but so am I.
I keep running. To where, I have no idea. But I need to get as far away from the memories as I can. I slow, too hungry and exhausted to run.
Don't you dare look out your window darling;
Everything's on fire
I see him. Fire Boy, Lover Boy, whatever he's claiming to be. How dare he love her, when my heart is searing and practically splitting in half?
He's gathering berries and food.
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music's gone, gone
I have a strategy, I've used it a million times before. I scamper over, as quick as my almost useless body can move, and only grab a few berries and a little cheese that I know must have come from the Capitol. It makes me sick. I haven't even gotten one gift. I don't have a single sponsor. Just as I'm about to grab another berry for good measure, I hear Fire Girl coming back.
I dart to the trees, trying to keep a light tread. Finally, when I think I'm far enough away that they won't hear me but I can barely hear their conversations, I put a berry in my mouth.
I savor the sweet taste as I subconsciously listen to the District Twelve tributes' conversation.
"Those are nightlock. Don't eat those."
And the world goes dark.
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe & sound...
Oooooo, Oooooo,Oooooo, OoooooLala... Lala...Lala... Lala...
Oooooo, OooOoo,Oooooo, OooOooLala... Oh Lala...
Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe & sound...
