Defying Expectations

Chapter One:

Jayfeather's ears twitched. Though he was unable to see, it was clear that something was coming—or someone. This someone wasn't alone and would set fire to the forest with every pawstep. They reeked of their twisted past would not hesitate to burn the clan.

Perhaps Midnight was wrong, Jayfeather wondered as he padded across the silent camp. Maybe it would be better if the truth hadn't come out for anything. He shook his head at such a foolish idea. The tom knew he shouldn't be thinking thoughts such as those; he held the power of the stars in his paws.

Silverpelt dotted the cobalt sky as the night was still. Not a mouse scurried nor did a leave rustle. Jayfeather inhaled the scent of sleeping cats in their dens and another. She was here.

"I'm not dead yet," a hoarse voice spat. The she-cat blended into the night except for her glimmering emerald eyes that glimmered with vengeance.

A voice boomed from above, "So Hollyleaf, you have come back."
