19. Child
Tess enjoys watching her son
He's almost exactly like his father
The way his hair falls in front of his eyes
And how he pushes it back
The curls on his head and at the nape of his neck
And the slender curve of his nose
His small smile
(which is so much like Nate's,
it hurts)
And the way his eyes shine
When he falls asleep at night
Clutching his teddy bear
His legs tangled in the sheets
Tess watches him quietly from the doorway
Unable to move away from this beautiful sight
He's precious, really
His loud laughs
And the way he runs around
The way his toys are scattered all over
In almost every room
He's so beautiful it hurts
And when she finally leaves his room
Albeit reluctantly
Slowly heading up to her bedroom
Wishing she could stay with him forever
She thinks she will never let him go
And as she goes into her room
Nate watches her amusedly
Almost like he knows what she's thinking
Which he probably does
Her husband is so much like Cameron
His hair, his smile, his laugh
The way he looks at her sometimes
Like what he's saying is so obvious
How could she not know?
And when she watches Nate and Cameron
And Nate teaches Cameron to play guitar
She sees Cameron grasping the guitar
She sees the man he will be one day
So much like his father
