Alcatraz Chapter 1
"Come on, Grandma! We're gonna miss the boat!" shouted a small boy who was tugging at the old woman's dry and wrinkled hand. She scurried ahead to catch up with her energetic grandson.
"Honey, are you sure this is alright?" asked the old woman's daughter to her husband. "This place brings back so many memories for her, some very painful."
"Relax, Marge." Her husband replied to her. "You mom has Alzheimer's, remember? I doubt she even remembers this place back in the day. The only way anyone could have known about her past is from her journal."
"Hurry up you slowpokes, the boat's about to leave!!!!" screamed the chubby boy at his parents. The family quickly boarded the huge boat that was traveling to their destination; Alcatraz Island. The couple's son stood at the edge of the boat, watching the ship cut through the calm waters of the San Francisco Bay and pointing at the other sailboats anchored near their boat. The old woman walked slowly to the upper deck of the ship and took a seat near the boy. Her daughter and her husband sat right next to her, her daughter making sure her husband and mother didn't see through her joyful and cheerful face, for she was filled with anxiety and fear.
Before any of the family members could relax, the boat had docked on the side of the ancient island and everyone prepared to enter the island. The old woman took a slow step off the boat with the help of her family and scanned the island that she stood on. Her light emerald eyes suddenly grew wider, her pupils started to dilate, and her face expression changed from tired and calm to shock and sadness. Tears began to well in the old woman's eyes.
"Oh mom, I shouldn't have brought you here, lets go back on the boat---"
"No. I'll stay here." The old woman replied to her daughter. She began to recall her once forgotten past. "Oh, how this place brings back so many memories. . ."
