Airplane Mode

As the airplane took off, I glared out of the window, seeing the diagonal vision that this plane gave.
Oddly enough, I was not quite worried about the time that I'll be coming back to this place. That is, I don't mind leaving it for P.L.A.N.T., my new destination.
Maybe…we would be better off in PLANT than in ORB. Maybe that should have been on Mum and Dad's mind. Maybe…it would be better for Maayu, too, and now I'm going there alone.
That soldier was really nice to me, helping me in handling my emotional wreckage.
"Shinn…your name is Shinn, right?" He asked.
"Yes," I replied. "Shinn Asuka."
"It's so sad that you must carry on this way, but…I wish you all the best," he compassionately patted my shoulder.
I weakly smiled. "Thanks."
He was about to leave, and I stopped him.
"Hey," I called out.
"Yes?" He looked back. "Is there…anything you need?"
"How come you're a soldier?"
"How come I'm a…soldier?" He repeated my question in his own way.
"Yes."
"Because…there's something I want to protect…people I know, my friends, my family, and…myself."
"I see…I want to protect some people, too," I told him. "I…want to become a soldier just like you."
He seemed happy for me. "Sure, that might be the greatest thing for you."
"The greatest?"
At that time, I wondered. Would it really be the greatest thing for me?
Today, I looked around me, and I feel this odd desire in avoiding all those important questions that I ask myself.
I guess…maybe today, I can say I really don't think enduring this war as a soldier is a waste of time. If this war had to happen, I'd rather be on the front line.
That guy…Captain Todaka... I wonder what happened to him?
Has he…lived?
