AN: This is just a small preview for the chapters to come in a story about IDW Overlord's history. Future chapters will be dark and contain mature content. The preview is set in the present, during his trial after the events in Last Stand of the Wreckers, and the first chapter will be the start of the flashback.
It's funny how when there's nothing left to do, nothing left to think about, nothing left to look forward to, the one thing that keeps coming back is the past, and never the good memories either. How many millions of years had it been? So long and still he could never forget. Here, now, waiting for the verdict that would no doubt lead to the extraction of his spark, it all came back to him: the festering slums, the bots with no homes and no family and no fuel, the scavengers, the ruffians…and the pit fights. Oh, he remembered the pit fights. He remembered the screaming and shouting for more violence, the cheers when someone was brutally torn apart. He remembered being horrified at the time. Now, he only wished he could go back to that carnal fighting. In a few moments, he probably wouldn't even remember that. They say your mind is freed with spark separation, but it only sounded like another prison to him.
There was more, though, long before that. Before civil war, before factions, before the fights, before Megatron, before his world spiraled from the outer edges of despair and fell in, there was running and hiding and struggling.
And then, one day, there was him.
