Prologue

Percy POV

My day had been pretty normal so far. Well, at least until a package and a letter with my name written on it magically popped up on my desk in English class.

I felt my class mates stare at me in shock. I, on the other hand tried to figure out which god I had pissed off enough to deserve this. Athena, maybe? Yeah, she´s probably still pissed because I´m her daugher´s boyfriend. No, she would most likely send an army of owls at me. Ares, then? No, he´d just kill me. Or Zeus? No…

Paul (my English teacher/stepdad) cleared his throat loudly.

"Are you not going to read the letter, Percy?" He asked, eyebrows raised. He had probably figured this had something to do with the other side of my life, but was thankfully pretty calm about it. I guess not much surprises him anymore since he has seen me fighting in a war.

I opened the letter and read it. My heart sank with every word I read and was down by my feet when I was done.

"What does it say? Read it out loud!" asked Hannah Shay, also known as my grade´s biggest know-it-all. The rest of the class seemed to agree and started shouting at me to read it out loud.

I looked at Paul for advice. He seemed to hesitate, and then nodded. I sighed, then started to read. It went a bit slow, but it worked.

"To the not-as-awsome-as-me Percy Jackson:

We (the gods) have decided to do a little experiment to see how mortals would handle the knowledge of our existence. If this goes to Hades, we´ll wash away their memories. You´re going to read the books in the package. They´re about your life. The mortals in your class will not be able to speak to anyone else about this. Most of us are sorry if this is going to be one of the most uncomfortable experiences of your life.

-Written by the awesome god Hermes on the behalf of the Council of Olympus

By the time I was done, the rest of the class looked at me as if I had grown a second head.

"Seriously dude, what does it say." one of my friends, Liam, said.

"I am serious. This is what it says."

People started to murmur at this.

"No way! I know that there are no such thing as gods. Mr. Blofis, you cannot possibly believe this nonsense!" Hannah shouted.

The murmur died down and suddenly it was not me they were starring at, but Paul.

He smiled, as if he thought something was funny.

"Well, it´s kind of hard not to believe when you´ve seen your stepson kill monsters."

Silence. They were back to starring at me again.

"You kill monsters?" Liam asked dazed.

I smiled sheepishly.

"Yeah. I´m a half-blood. My dad is Poesidon."

People started murmuring again, and I´m sure they would have if it wasn´t for the thunder that was heard above us. They fell silent and looked at me for explanation.

"The gods are impatient. I´m guessing we should start reading, or Zeus might vaporize me or something."

More thunder.

I opened the package and looked at the books. There were five of them. I picked The Lighting Theif and looked and read on the back of the book.

"This is the first one. Seeing as it´s about my life, I´ll start reading."

"I accidently vaporize my pre-algebra teacher"
