Note: No idea where this came from, but it is set when Piper is married to
Leo and has Melinda, Paige doesn't exist.
The Day I Changed
"Phoebe."
I turned around. Piper stood there, her face a mask of ruined makeup, blotchy eyes and a tear stained face.
"Oh, God." I muttered. I turned and headed back towards her. "What happened?" I ask.
Is it Melinda? Melinda had been sick recently, a deadly cough enveloping her small body. *She's only two years old.* I think. *Why don't they just leave her alone?*
"Oh God, please be okay." I prayed.
Piper can't hear me, I'm too far away. I run, run hard toward her. I stop right infront of her.
"What happened?" I repeat.
Piper starts to shake, and I have to hold her as she collapses. She is making me so scared.
"Melinda." I whisper, holding her tight. "They lost her, didn't they?"
A mixture of surprise, relief and dread overcome me as Piper shakes her head.
"No."
She tries to stand up, but falls back onto me. I lead her to a bench in the park where we are, and rub her back, trying to comfort her. By now I can feel tears prickling my eyes aswell, but I blink them back, I have too, I have to be strong for Piper.
"It's Leo." I realise. Something terrible must have happened to him. Piper starts to shake even more, burying her face into me. I hold her tight, for she is freezing, and her hands are cold. "Take my gloves." I stutter, trying to control my voice. My thoughts are consumed by Leo, wondering what has happened to him, and I wrench the gloves off my hands and put them on Piper.
I know I'm meant to wait for it but I can't. "Tell me." I plead. "Tell me what happened to Leo."
Piper looks at me with her red eyes, and I see sympathy in them, which scares me even more. She swallows, trying to control herself, but her voice is shaking as she says the words.
"It's not Leo." She whispers.
*Oh God no.* I think.
"It's Prue." She continues. "There was an accident and she was in it."
"But she's going to be alright, isn't she?" I beg, and as Piper closes her eyes, takes a deep shuddering breath and shakes her head, the tears I fought so hard to keep down come spilling up, hard and fast. Nausea overcomes me, and suddenly I feel like I am going to faint, and I have to steady myself so I don't.
"No, she's not." Piper tells me at last. "Phoebe, she's gone."
And that was it. Prue was never going to come back, and with that devastating piece of knowledge I never wanted to know, I fall into Pipers arms, and shake, trying to wipe my tears away with the back of my hand, and knowing that I will never, ever, be the same again.
