Hey Guys, this is just a tiny little one-shot in the married life of Jane and Charles Bingley. I love these two characters, but there doesn't seem to be enough fanfics about them. I hope you like this one.
Disclaimer: I'm very much alive, or at least, I was last time I checked. ;)
Silver Spoons
"Charles?"
The so named man looked up from his book,
"Yes Jane?"
Do you think that we've been awfully silly about this whole business?"
"What business would that be my love?" he asked his wife. She continued to stare at the fire,
"Elizabeth believes that one of the servants may have been…" she coughed, and blushed, he noticed and took her hand in his,
"Yes Jane?"
"Oh Charles I don't want to believe it! But when Elizabeth showed me the spoons, I knew that they were the ones missing from the silverware!" He watched as a single tear slid down her cheek, it was very clear he noticed, and then he put his hands on either side of her face,
"Jane, I think we might both have been rather silly about it all. I saw Martha taking the spoons, she told me they needed to be polished in town, and I believed her." He grimaced at his own stupidity, his wife however laughed, "Oh Charles, anyone can polish spoons! They don't need to be taken to town!" she sniffed a little, but smiled.
"Yes, I know that know! I looked like a fool asking the silversmith for our spoons back!" the memory was a painful one, but seeing the smile back on his wife's face was worth it.
"Maybe we should polish our own spoons, then we would know where they are," She smiled, and tried not to sniff again. Mr Bingley grinned, "Jane dear, I think that is a wonderful idea. Let's go now, I wonder if Mrs Fletcher would be willing to lend us a…" he stopped, "What do you polish spoons with?"
She chuckled slightly, "A cloth."
"Oh!" his red eyebrows almost disappeared into his hair line. "That's all?"
"And a little lemon juice, or vinegar."
Mr Bingley smiled, and stood up, "Come on Jane, let's go polish some silver."
The Bingley's silver spoons were never polished by a servant again. Throughout their lives, whenever they felt as though the world was against them, whenever something went horribly wrong, Mr Bingley would suggest polishing the spoons, for they knew that whatever life threw at them, somehow they would get through it, together.
I know I didn't make it very clear, but the Elizabeth is Elizabeth Darcy. I'm also not sure about the ending, but I wanted to put it in, if anyone has any ideas on how to put the idea across a little more eleoquently, I'd be delighted to hear it.
