While rewatching Faster than a Speeding Vixen, I wondered why Superman didn't just refuse to play along with Vixen. There were some other scenes in that trilogy of episodes that didn't quite work for me, so . . . Here's the first of those reworked scenes.
"Come on! I'll race you to China!" Vixen ran off in a blur of golden sparks.
Superman shook his head. He had said he didn't want to race her, that he only wanted to talk to her, but she seemed more interested in these petty contests, first from Metropolis to England, now she wanted to head to China.
He wasn't going to play her games.
"Help!" someone cried from nearby. From the echo, he surmised that they were underground.
After saving the people trapped in the stalled Tube, he flew back to Metropolis and his wife.
"What happened?" a concerned Lois asked.
"She's . . . I don't know," he admitted with a sigh. "I wanted to talk, to ask her who she is and where she's from and why she's here, but she just wanted to race around the world."
"Race?" She was flabbergasted.
He nodded. "From here to England - where I caught up to her - then she ran off to China."
"Wait, she ran? She doesn't fly like you?"
He shook his head, his lips pressed in a grim line.
"I take it she's not Kryptonian, then. But she's fast enough to beat you across an ocean?"
"Yeah, surprised me, too. She ran across the Atlantic. I wonder how she reacted when she realised I wasn't racing her to China."
They both snickered at that.
"Hey, Lois, Clark," Perry called out. "I want you two to see if you can talk to Superman about Vixen. Word has it they were seen together in London; maybe he can convince her to give you an interview."
"Oh, okay," Lois chirped. "We'll get right on that."
"See that you do. Anybody else not working on something concrete, I want you working on this Vixen story! Eyewitness accounts, word on the street, statements from the people she's apprehended so far! Let's move!" He clapped his hands to punctuate each sentence.
