Hey everyone, Colby here and in a rather pissy mood. I know I should be working on my stories but I have been in a lazy mood so that will come later. My main reason for this rant is because I have been looking for some good fan fiction stories but they are all the same cliché ones. So I decided to make a list of all the things that bug me about most of the fan fics I find on this site. Enjoy and don't hurt me!
Vampire themes: This is probably the most over-used theme for a story on here. I admit that vampires are sexy but after a while all the stories are basically the same. Though I have found a few good vampire stories and I loved them, but the rest…belch.
Emo or Goth characters: Ugh this is a really annoying concept. For some reason people have developed this emoy fetish where in almost every story one of the main characters is either goth or emo. I really have no problems with goth people, they are awesome, though I do despise emo people cause simply they are so depressing and whiney. Very few stories can I continue to read when it is like the whole basis of the characters personality is if they are emo or goth.
High School settings: This is not one of my major things but I find it rather irritating. The high school setting is thee most overused setting for a story on this entire site I swear.
One shot one-night stands: Ok seriously who sleeps with someone they just meet. And I hate how they are like I love you even though they haven't known the person for more than like an hour. I mean come on, if you are going to write a lemon one-shot take the story through a series of events before you have the main characters fuck each other. The exception is if you or one of the characters makes it clear that there has been some feelings prior to this story.
Poorly written lemons: I really hate when people compress a lemon to a paragraph or two. And usually when people do that the lemon is very short on detail and imagery.
Over and under description of setting and characters: I think that you yourself should try to figure out in your own mind what the setting looks like via the decent amount the author gives you. Same goes for to little description, give a decent amount of information and let the reader construct what they think the setting looks like. As for characters description goes, since this is fanfiction you should know what the characters look like. Even if the author introduces a made up character they should still give only the basic description of that character and let the reader make their own version of them in their mind.
Mpreg: Ok this is one I'm not to adamant about but it still rather bugs me. Mpreg is an odd subject. I think since if a male were to become pregnant he would have to be a hermaphrodite with the female sexual organs working. But as I said this is not one of those big issues with me.
Over use of exclamation points: People who add to many exclamation to a story makes the whole story sound like it was wrote by a forth grader.
Stories that start with the weather: I think this is a major way to make people click the back button. I think it can mess up the whole flow of a story. And with this space you could be working on progressing the story line or start building the characters.
Second grade level dialect: One of my most hated things of all is when people dumb down conversations with first or second grade words and sentence structure. Only if the characters are in elementary school should they sound like they are 7.
Well I hope I didn't piss anyone off to much, but this is just my personal views on a lot of the stories on here. I really do love this site and a lot of the stories on here but there are still some bad fan fics on here who do all of these things.
