They come to see the fire burning in, in your heart
Tony let Peter help him up from the ashy plain of Titan, wincing at the pain from the stab wound. The nanotech holding it together was a last-resort, and he knew he needed to remove it soon.
Tony was just glad that Peter was alright. He was mad, or course, that Quill had ruined their plan, but he was more worried about the kid being okay. Tony would never forgive himself if he let something happen to him.
They want to witness, this love from the start
The pair hobbled closer to the rest of the group, Peter supporting most of Tony's weight. Mantis spoke, disturbing the silence.
"Something's happening," she whispered, looking around. She looked scared.
Tony stepped forward in horror, watching as she disappeared, her ashes rising into the air.
Tony saw Drax go too, seeing the fear he so desperately tried to hide. As Quill stumbled, Tony pushed out anxious words.
"Steady, Quill."
The words did nothing.
Tony whipped around to face Strange, his stomach dropping rapidly.
"There was no other way," Strange whispered. And then he was gone.
"Mr. Stark?"
They hear you when you cry
Fear encased Tony's heart, and he whirled to watch as Peter stumbled.
"I don't feel so good," Peter mumbled, staring at his hands.
Tony tried to deny it.
"You're alright."
"I don't-I don't know what's happening." Peter tripped, latching onto Tony's shoulders in some sadistic form of a hug.
This love is far and wide
Tony wrapped his arms around the boy, shock encompassing him.
This couldn't be happening.
"I don't wanna go, I don't wanna go," Peter chanted, his voice wavering through his tears.
"Sir, please, please, I don't wanna go."
When you smile, the stars align
"I don't wanna go…"
Peter fell, pulling Tony with him. Tony cradled his head, unable to say anything. The absolute fear coursing through his veins stole his breath away.
He couldn't believe this. This kid-no-his kid.
Tony could only view through his own eyes as Peter looked up at him.
"I'm sorry," Peter whispered.
He was gone.
Flower of the universe
Tony felt like a passenger in his body as he rocked sideways, staring at his hands.
He waited for the tell-tale dust, but it never came.
How could the universe be so cruel? Absently, Tony wondered what he had done to deserve this.
His illegitimate child, taken from right in front of him, with nothing he could do to stop it.
He looked up, watching as Peter's ashes curled into the atmosphere of Titan.
Tony put his face in his hands, burying it in all he had left of his kid.
And child of mine
