Disclaimer: You know the drill...

Author's notes: This fanfic is based on Nancy Drew Files #6 White Water Terror. The places and everything are not the same but I used the storyline. My first story! So bear with it ya. Review appreciated. =)

"Come on, Bess. You can't be serious! This is an once-in-a-lifetime chance and you are missing it!" Nancy Drew exclaimed.

Nancy had just received a letter from Redwood Camps Inc. that she is eligible to go for an adventure camp organized by Redwood for free. Usually it would have cost at least fifty dollars per person. Nancy heard their camps were superb. Plus, the letter said that she could invite 3 friends and she was inviting Ned, her longtime boyfriend, Bess and George. Now she and George were in George's room, persuading Bess to go.

"Yeah, Bess. Don't be a spoilsport! It will be fun!" agreed George. "But... I can't stand the thought of being in an unfamiliar place without any mean of communication! I mean, what if we get lost? What if there are rats? What if there are snakes? What if –"She was cut off by George and Nancy poking her rapidly.

"Well... Okay," Bess agreed reluctantly. "Promise you will come to my rescue once I scream?"

"PROMISE!" Nancy and George chorused together.

.........................................

"I still don't feel good about this, Nance... I still don't feel good about going to a dark, gloomy forest plus mountains and cliffs and rocks and snakes and everything," Bess said emphatically. "Besides, what can you do in the forest that is constructive? Killing snakes?"

Nancy, Bess and George were packing and getting ready for the adventure camp. It was a long afternoon with all of them squabbling, especially in the case of Bess and George.

"For goodness sake, Bess," George replied, "you may never know. They may have a special plan for us..."

"Oh really. I don't think so!" Bess snapped back.

"Cut!! You two, stop it. Give me a break. Both of you has been quarrelling since-" Nancy checked her watch, "-three o'clock. It's already four!"

The two cousins zipped their mouths shut in a minute. They continued packing and glaring at each other. Nancy couldn't stand the deathly silence anymore and requested they sing a song while they pack. They started singing "All the Earth" by The Parachute Band.

Good, Nancy thought. The atmosphere in the room was lightening up.

About and hour passed and they had sung the whole album of The Parachute Band – as well as packing their stuff. Smells of Hannah's special homemade lemon chicken began to waft up to Nancy's room.

"Yum! That's Hannah's special homemade lemon chicken. Let's go down." Nancy said.

The three girls rushed down the stairs to the kitchen.

"I see three hungry girls, wanting to sneak on my chicken eh? Ha ha. It will be done in a minute and we'll start dinner when your father comes back, Nance," Nancy's longtime housekeeper Hannah Gruen said with a smile. Hannah was more than a housekeeper to Nancy, more like her second mother in fact. She has been there since Nancy's mother died when Nancy was three.

Nancy nodded and headed for the living room. She switched on the TV and suddenly, the telephone rang.

Bess snatched the phone and listened. Before she could even say "Drew residence", she was looking as pale as flour. She dropped the phone to the ground with a clattering sound and a frightened look on her face.
