Chapter 1: Nikka Asagi

The streetlight dimly shined through the windows, breaking the darkness within the room. In the distant, sounds of the city's nightlife bloomed, the soft, tic…tic…tic…. of the clock as it ticked time away and the dulling splatters of a single drop, leftover from a summer shower, a perfect summer's night. The temperature was not too hot, not too cold, but yet, Kinomoto Sakura couldn't sleep.

The more she tried, the more she couldn't and the more and more thoughts popped into her head, each one dimming her image on life.

Things had gotten so complicated and change Sakura's view on life all in a matter of moments and in her friends moment a desperaty, all was changed and nolonger was there going to be aSakura and Nikka, friends forever.

Asagi, Nikka, had been friends with Sakura, ever since middle school. It all happened by the misfortune of Sakura, and being her clumsy self, tripping and spilling paint on Nikka. Now, Nikka being new and prepared for a fight, wasn't going to take shit form nobody and deffinitly not from a little goodie goodie like Kinomoto Sakura. So in retaliation and to get back at Sakura, she splashed Sakura wuith paint right back.

-Flashback-

So, there they were, just the two of them in the detention hall, Sakura, Nikka, and of course Mr. Takasi.

Sakura sat there fuming. 'Who does she think she is? I was trying to say sorry. It's not like I'd do it on purpose or something! Some people really need to learn not to take things so personal.' She glanced outside; she could see the rest of her classmates outside playing. 'Ugh… this all her fault. Dad's going to be so mad when he finds out I ruined my school uniform!'

Meanwhile across the room, Nikka was also fuming over today's events. 'What the hell is her problem? I may be new but who does she think she is, spilling paint on me on purpose. I aught' a go over there and give her a piece of my mind.'

Nikka glared at Sakura, shooting dagger with each contempt stare.

Minutes passed and Sakura looked at the clock that was silently ticking away. '1…2…3…4…' Sakura counted the seconds. '45…46…47… Huh'? Her attention was diverted when Takashi-sensei got up.

"I will be back in a couple a minutes. I needtorun an errand." Sensei informed the pair.

Nikka watched carefully as sensei walked out of the classroom and shut the door. 'Alright, it's now or never.' She pushed out her chair and stood up and marched over to Sakura.

'I wonder what Syaoran, Tomoyo are up too. We were supposed to work on our Home Economics project today. Otou-san was going to teach us his special recipe for his upside down cake…'

SMACK!

Sakura jumped back and fell out of her seat. When she looked up too see what had just happened and saw Nikka standing beside her desk talking. It took a while for Nikka's words to register in Sakura's brain.

"…And how about listening to me when I'm talking to you. I come over for a simple apology and you have to start acting like a bitch…"

"First off, I already said sorry, you might have heard that if you didn't splash paint on me, ruining my uniform. And secondly, how bout seeing if the person knows your talking to them before you go round calling someone a fucking bitch." Sakura yelled, storming to her feet.

"Oh, I'm sorry little miss prep, is mommy going to ground you? Take away you computer or something? FYI, my uniform is busted as well."

"To bad my mom's dead thanks for reminding me!"

"Oh… sorry to hear…" Nikka went quiet.

"Yeah… well… it was a long time ago," Sakura said looking away.

" Yeah.. well... you still didn't have to get paint on me 'cause I'm new to your school." Nikka mumbled.

"Oh my god!" Sakura said whipping her head around to look at Nikka, fire blazing in her eyes. " It was a freaking accident! I already told you that!"

"Uh huh, I'm sure just like everything else that ever happens to people at new schools." Nikka said rolling her eyes.

"Why you little…"Sakura growled getting ready to pounce.

"Kinomoto! Asagi! Principal's office now!" Mr. Takashi yelled at the girls. "And no speaking, or I'll see to it that we will be spending more time together." He said giving the girls a 'and I don't mean normal class time' look.

"Stupid little, annoying, arrogant..."

"Pig headed, idiot, retarded…"

"Annoying, stuck up, bitch." They both murmured under their breath so that the sensei wouldn't hear.

"She's got me doing cafeteria clean up during my study period for a week!" Sakura whined to Tomoyo.

"But, Sakura, don't you usually help out with the clean up?"

"Yeah, but not as a punishment or during my study period!"

"Oh boy…"Tomoyo rolled her eyes at her friend's rant.

"Well I better go get ready, before Mr. Shiho will throw a fit." Sakura rolled her eyes.

"Ja, Sakura!"

"Ja, Tomoyo!"

Meanwhile, on the other side of the school, Nikka was walk slowly to the cafeteria. 'Great another day with that stupid gaki cheerleader.'

Nikka walked over to Takashi-sensei who was waiting with Sakura.

"All right you too," he said. "I want this placed clean by 1:30."

Sakura groaned that was only half a period; they'd never get it done.

"Kinomoto-san, you'll start of with the mop, Asagi-san, you'll start off with wiping the tables down. When I return I expect I wont see anymore fighting."

"Yes, sensei." They two said in chorusing.

The progress was slow and boring, no one was speaking, and the seconds seemed to dull on forever.

Sakura's mind was wondering off, not paying attention to anything around her. 'Hmmm… I wonder what Syaoran has planned for our date today. Maybe he'll take me to that apple orchard, it's supposed to be in bloom. They're supposed beautiful this time of year…'

"Would you hurry your ass up!" Nikka yield. "I'm not going to do an extra week of this if it's because you were being lazy!"

Sakura looked around, and sure enough, Nikka was two rows over from where she was standing. "Sorry," Sakura said sarcastically, "but my job is just a little bit harder then yours, so it takes longer."

"Bullhshit…" Nikka murmured.

"What was that?"

"Nothing."

"Don't think I can't hear you from there!"

The rest of the week went the same, Nikka wiped, Sakura mopped. Every now and then you'd get a spat that would burst out, but nothing serious that it landed them in more trouble.

One day, when Sakura was walking home with Tomoyo, they heard yelling from around the corner.

"Hey, let me go!" a familiar voice cried out.

Sakura and Tomoyo rushed around the corner in time to see Nikka being pushed down by a tall, dark haired guy.

"Hey!" Sakura shouted. "Leave her alone! What has she done to you?" She ran in front of Nikka, her arms outstretched to stop the guy from hurting Nikka any further.

"This ain't worth it." The guy mumbled and stormed off in the opposite direction.

"You all right?" Tomoyo asked

"Yeah…" Nikka muttered quietly.

"Here." Sakura said giving Nikka a hand to help her up. Nikka just looked at bewildered, asking herself why Sakura would even want to help her up. "Comon take my hand."

-End Flashback-

It took Nikka a while to figure out why Sakura helped her out the day she did. But the more and more she and Sakura hanged out, the clearer and clearer the reason became. Sakura didn't care if you weren't exactly the best of friends, (or even friends for that matter) or if you were the world's grump, nobody ever deserves to be picked on or pushed around…

Slowly rolling over, Sakura looked at her clock, it was 12:15. She had been attempting to go to sleep for over an hour and a half, but was only meet with failure. Something in the back of her mind kept nagging at her.

Next week was supposed to be Nikka's 17th birthday…
