Chapter 1: Day 1: 0600 hours to 0700 hours
Shock......a sharp tingling through my body. My eyes burning from the intensity. Black ash drifted through the air, blinding my view over the once great capital of Vekta. Dark smoke engulfing the ruins of markets and homes. Why did it come to this? How could he do this? Vekta City once held young inhabitants that lived their lives normally, never expecting that they would be vaporized in a mere second. I could've stopped it. I could've gotten to Radec before he committed the crime. The blood mine as well be on my hands, not his. It all happened in a matter of three days.
(Three days ago....)
I was glaring through my dark red goggles at the captain who was poaring his life story on me.
"I remember when Sergeant Jones was promoted. His first day, he even saluted the corporals. You fuck up the first day. If I see another mishap like this again, I'll get you demoted so fast, you'll be still walking to the file cabinet for your fill out form," Captain Syphon yelled, "Do I make myself clear, Sergeant Ray!?"
I smirked under my helmet and said politely, "Sir, yes, sir!"
"Alright, dismissed."
I pivoted to the left and took off. Before I could reach the door, which was already sliding open due to the motion sensors, I heard my name called again.
"Sergeant Ray! Message from Colonel Templar," the messenger announced.
"Thank you, private. Dismissed."
I opened the note and gave full attention to the words printed on the crisp paper. "Meet me in the courtyard."
The words rang the instant they came to my eyes. I felt a burn in my hands and dropped the note to the floor. My arms grew numb and I collapsed to the floor, alongside the note. I fell unconscious.
I awoke one hour later in the courtyard. My head still in a daze from the turmoil I was put through. I was able to regain my vision and noticed Templar right next to me.
"Colonel, what happened," I asked with weakness sneaking through my lips.
"I input a sleeping drug into the note. It slipped into your skin once you touched it. I needed you here without any of your sarcastic plans in between. I need you to take on your old role again," Templar explained.
"You don't mean my old scout role. That was back when I was a grunt. I wasn't even good. I mean......"
"ENOUGH! You were the best we had. Here are your statistics from the battle of Red Beach," Templar threw a manilla folder at my feet.
The statistics read:
Kills: 125
Shots fired: 125
Shots hit: 125
Accuracy: 100%
Ammo clips used: 30
"Wow, this is me," I gasped.
"Yes, we even gave you a code name."
"So, I guess I'm taking back my old persona. What was my code name though," I asked with temptation in my eyes.
"............Zephyr"
