Their Eyes

By: ChoCedric

It's their eyes that haunt him the most through his stint in Azkaban. Every time he tries to curl up into a little ball and sleep, he is bombarded with the image of their lifeless eyes, Lily's so emerald-green and pleading, pleading, pleading for everything to go back to the way it was, for hurt and betrayal not to have cast a shadow over the world. And James, his best friend in the entire world, his glasses askew, his eyes behind them staring, staring, staring up into the night sky, his face frozen in a look of defiance and horror. Sirius can never put the guilt aside; he always feels like their eyes are accusing him, taunting him, blaming him, telling him it's all his fault, condemning him. And as he feels a dementor pass by his cell once more, he knows he deserves it.
