Well, Squall thinks, because she's still feared. Yuffie pauses mid-throw and she glares at Squall… Leon… Squallie—
whatever—
She rolls her eyes and cracks her neck. She turns to her target, a small can of fizzy pop soda, and eyes it, leveling her gaze and movements. The overdramatic silence that blossomed between hunter and the hunted was overbearing.
Squall interrupts again, and Yuffie's arm pulsated upwards, throwing her ninja star towards the skies. The metal object is lost in the haze of the skies, and she runs out of the area. It appears back from the skies, slicing through a hovering cloud and landing on the ground with a defiant thud.
Elbows outstretched, Squallie lifts his head from under the shadows of his hair in a rather nonchalant way, murmuring betwixt laughing breaths. You missed that one by a mile, he snorts, and he is so going to get it.
Yuffie can't get enough of that smile. She does a few impressive cartwheels towards the weapon and manages to pick it up with her teeth, letting her perfect scene end with an abysmal fall. She grunts a little, spitting out the weapon in her mouth just in time. Her hands find her head automatically and Leon runs to her.
The worst way to go, he begins one of his infamous lectures, is trying to feel like a winner.
Yuffie snorts at his pathetic wisdom and agrees to be picked up by this monstrosity. I hate you, she declares, leaving him dumbfounded. Squall shakes his head and closes his eyes, the same way he has for years.
A light bulb flames within her mind and Yuffie then reaches towards his lips with hers, leaving a small and gentle kiss in her wake. He jumps back, not believing the forty-fifths of the last second. She laughs and tells him all he can think are statistics, because she's just won and he's just lost.
The worst way to lose, she mocks, is trying to feel like a winner.
He shifts back to his old pose of hiding behind his hair, but a smile creeps upon his pale lips. That smile. She can't get enough of that smile.
