Author Notes: This was a story that started coming from out of nowhere. It's definately a different style, to what I'm used to writing, but I like playing with the changes this way. Enjoy :)
Chapter One
.Peace
Leah ran her fingers over the bark of the fallen pine she sat upon. She traced the different causeways and grooves, following the path of a singular tiny ant as it rushed about its business. She never thought she would have found solace in the woods, they held too many memories that hurt to recall, but here she was, listening to the birds as they called in the trees above her and looking out over the filed of sun kissed wild oats.
.Anger
The screen door slammed shut and Leah stormed down the front steps.
Her footsteps heavy on the wooden planks.
"Leah! Come back here. Don't you walk away from me!"
She growled and continued across the drive. Flicking a cigarette from her back pocket and lighting it angrily.
Family. Who needed them? She didn't that was for sure.
"Leah! I haven't finished!" yelled her father as he followed her out onto the porch.
She kicked the gravel out from under her feet and searched for another cigarette. She wished they'd all just leave her alone.
.Fear
She was hot and clammy. Her legs felt like jelly; she couldn't calm her thoughts and she was shaking uncontrollably.
What the hell was happening?
She looked down the street and back towards her parents house, and then to the woods at the other end. She needed to get away from here.
She could feel her insides churning and she felt like she was going to spill her breakfast everywhere. Something wasn't right.
She picked up the pace, kicking off her flip flops, preferring the hard hot asphalt beneath her feet as she aimed for the tree line.
Her joints began to convulse, her muscles were burning and she screamed in sudden agony as her body twisted and contorted into a sudden spasm of unnatural movement.
She dove into the cover of the forest, dreading the impact of the ground she knew was coming. Headfirst, she tumbled down the incline, her body still twisting uncontrollably.
She cried out in pain as her body slammed against a boulder and she closed her eyes tight in fear. She felt blood spring from her calves and bruises form on her arms as her body slid down the side of a quarry among a rabble of rocks and branches.
Moments later, she slid to a stop and looked up to see how far she had fallen. It was quite a distance, she was lucky she wasn't killed.
"What the fuck? Leah?"
She tensed suddenly, feeling the hair on her arms rise. Where had that come from?
"...Paul?"
She snorted. That wasn't her voice! That was a dog whining!
"It's ok Leah, just stay calm. We're coming to help..."
'What the fuck is going on?' she thought, swearing she just heard Sam speak to her. She went to wipe the blood trickling down her brow and fell over backwards when she saw that her arm, was no longer the arm of a normal girl.
"SSSHHIIT!" she cursed aloud, but again, only heard the surprised bark of a dog.
She looked over the rest of her body, startled at what she found.
Gone were her long legs, lithe and curved copper torso. Instead, in her place, she found the large grey form of a wolf.
She blinked in shock. Fear crept up from the base of her spine, followed closely by panic.
"Stay put! We'll be there in a second!" - Sam again.
She couldn't do this. She didn't understand.
Ignoring Sam's instructions, she put one paw after the other, and ran.
