"Words are a pretext. It is the inner bond that draws one person to another, not words."
Heh. Simon shook his head as he read the line on the Japanese manga he's currently reading. The prosecutor was on the courtroom lobby, waiting for the arrival of his dear friend and rival Athena Cykes. This particular quote struck home; it was the very bond he was having with the certain defense attorney.
Seven long years of no contact, seven long years of pain and misery, seven long years of pretending the other doesn't exist, or so he though she was currently coping. Flipping the next page, Simon wondered if they were really that close for a short time, if they were really that close to form a bond that will never break. Even if he throw insults to hurt her emotions, even if he berate her, even if he throws her away, she was still there, pursuing her goal, her goal to save him.
She succeeded. In a rather emotionally straining ending.
When they first met in the Detention Center, he was overly hostile towards her, treating her like a regular rookie attorney who doesn't know how to be an actual lawyer yet. He got to commend her for her resiliency, she didn't back down and was true to her words on saving him. He honestly lacked faith in her on that, and he rather keep her from harm's way.
Simon continued reading his manga, noticing how the characters were faintly similar to his relationship with Athena. Even if they fought against each other, even if they didn't get along that well when they meet again, somehow, their bond was still close. The character named Mari said another thing that Simon agreed.
"Sometimes, reaching out and taking someone's hand is the beginning of a journey. At other times, it is allowing another to take yours."
Simon had reached out his hand to be Athena's friend eight years ago. A year ago, she reached out her hand to save him.
Fate can be truly a weird thing.
Huh. The character named Hono spoke the same thing.
"I'm here!"
Athena barged the door open, panting as she slowed down to rest.
Late as always. She would never change. That was the reason why he enjoyed her company so much. Closing his manga and tucking it under his arm, he approached her and greeted his hello.
Today was a start of another beautiful friendship.
A/N: The first entry for Cykesquill week! Ah, I managed to post something in time, like I promised. I'm currently not feeling well as I was typing this, so forgive me if it's only a drabble.
