Athena sat on her bed though if you asked her person Derek he would say it was his. Athena snorted at that thought. She began to groom her self a chore she hated it was her persons job to clean her.
However, it would be a long time before that happened he was away working. She was so proud of Derek's job. He caught the baddest of the bad people. While she thought of him as her person, she also knew he was her master at the same time either way he belonged to her in the same way she belonged to him.
On that note, while she was proud of what Derek did she did not like what it did to him. Some nights he came home upset and after his friend died, he cried she did what she could to comfort him. Of course she knew his friend was not dead after all she could smell death and he did not have it on him.
Eventually he got over his grief Athena heard a sound and jumped up he was home. She used her steps to get off the bed and ran into the front foyer, the door opened and Derek walked in. Athena happily launched herself at him barking happily Derek bent down and picked her up "Hey girl" he said. Athena happily licked his face and nuzzled it.
Forget needing to be groomed her master was home and she could tell this case had been a hard one he needed her more that she needed anything at that moment. She really hated the dog days of summer that was when the worst bad people were out and it was always the hardest on Derek.
She was man's best friend and this was her man and he needed her, her needs would just have to wait until she could help her master. Derek shut the door and locked it with his free hand.
Athena watched as he did this making sure it was safe other wise she would stand guard until it was safe. Once the door was secure she smiled licked him again and was carried off to the couch.
