It was no secret that Temperence Brennan loved her job. She had studied for years to obtain it. It consumed her life. But, It was also no secret that she loved her partner. When she was not at the lab, she was chasing around Sealey Booth trying to catch the latest murderer. No matter how many arguments they had together they always kissed and made up at the coffee shop afterwards. Ok, maybe they didn't kiss. She wanted to, though. That's why her world was shaken when Booth came into her office that one crisp September evening.
"Bones, have some bad news." He said softly
"What is it, Booth?" she asked setting down her latest fan mail.
His voice was solemn; there was no mistake about it. "I have to move out of state."
"Pennsylvania?"
"Actually, it's more like out of time zone. Ever since the murder trial that I testified at, the government has been pushing me to move."
"But, Booth," Bones said disbelievingly, "That's ridiculous, you said it yourself."
"It was ridiculous, Bones." He said frustrated. "The man escaped two days ago. Today, he went after Parker. He was waiting for him at school. If Mrs. Tushami hadn't been carrying a hand gun—don't ask! She's a paranoid lady—he would have run off with Parker. Parker and I are moving to California. If it was only me I would stay here, but," He paused and hung his head as if having trouble speaking. "I need to leave for parker's sake."
"Are you just going to leave me?" Bones asked, terrified.
"I couldn't! That's why I'm here. If you didn't matter to me this much then I would already be on the west coast. That's why I want you to come with us."
"To California?"
"Yes. I can't even think about living life with out you, Bones. If I leave without you, I can't ever see you again.
'But it means you would have to leave the Jeffersonian. Your father could find you. It might take a little longer, but he would. And this time I wouldn't have to arrest him."
"You quit your job."
"I had to."
"Booth, I--" he put a finger to her lips to silence her.
"Parker thinks you would make a great step-mom. He's been crazy about it ever since I mentioned it."
He pulled a small box out of his coat pocket. He opened it and inside was a gold ring. It had no large diamond on it, just a small emerald and on the inside of the band "Bones and Booth" was engraved.
"You wouldn't want to let him down, would you?"
Temperance threw her arms around his neck and kissed him fiercely, pulling him into her. He pulled his arms around her waist and received the kiss all too willingly.
"How's that for an answer?" Bones asked seductively, gently pulling back.
From the doorway they heard a childish giggle. Both turned around to see Parker holding a hand over his mouth attempting to stifle it. They all laughed and left the Jeffersonian after bones left Angela a message.
Dear Angela,
My knight in shining FBI standard issue body armor has swept me off my feet onto his white '67 steed with leather interior. Sorry, I left so soon. I can't tell you how much I'll miss you! Please, say goodbye to Hodgins, Zack, and Cam for me. Remember: Kathy Reichs will always have something to say.
Love,
Bones
The End
