This is my first drabble. After years of questions as an anon and following so many blogs in this fandom I felt maybe it was worth it to share my love of this story that is coming to an end.
If this is shit, let me know and i'll take it down, but hopefully it is worth of being read by so many wonder fandom writers and fans. You all inspire me everyday.

Sometimes it surprises her. The ache in her chest when she hears his voice. She can hear his smile as the speak in hushed tones late into the night. She always had a soft spot for him, of course he knew it the charming devil, but some how over the last fifteen years Klaus had become the man she saw glimpses of in their time together in Mystic Falls. Someone she did not want to let go of.
Now she can't imagine what it would be like not speaking everyday. Klaus needed to focus on Hope and Caroline wanted nothing more than to let them find their way back to each other. So she stayed in Mystic Falls while Klaus tried to put Hope's life back together. In between phone calls and texts, they sent letters. Letters that allowed them to say the things that were to scary to voice allowed.
It was easier. bearing theirs souls on paper. It made it less intense, but no less meaningful. Caroline knew their attraction would always be there, but she had also heard about his brief affair with another blonde. The one who had earned his affections and It hurt to think she might have missed her chance. The chance at being with her last love before she ever even realized she wanted that very promise to become reality.
They have been through so much, and yet now all she wants is to see him. To breath in his scent and just be with him. She thinks of Stefan and how she never longed for him like this. How the very though of Klaus doing what Stefan did to her on their wedding day makes the acid churn in her gut.
Never wanting to admit to anyone the relief she now feels over Stefan's choice. She had fallen so in love with the idea of being in love with Stefan, she didn't realize it wasn't anything like what she had wanted.
Now she knows. It's Klaus. It will always be Klaus and that smug bastard will never let her live it down, but god is she so excited for that ribbing. She had fallen so hard and fast that she wants to run to him. Hold his beautiful face in her hands as she looks him straight in the eye and says "I love you." She wants to shower his face in kisses and tuck her nose in the crook of his neck and never leave.
Of course, she also wants to make him wait for knowing they would be together long before she did because, hello, she hates to let him win. This loss though, it's the sweetest, most amazing surrender and she knows in the end it's actually her biggest win.
