I woke gasping for breath. There was a cold sweat formed on my brow. It was that same nightmare like always. However each one was just as realistic as the last. There she was on the ground cut in two. I shook the thoughts from my head and sat up in bed. I looked toward the alarm clock on the bedside table an it read 9:15pm my afternoon nap had gone longer than expected.

I got out of bed and head to the shower hopefully the steam an hot water would help get rid of the chill that rested upon my bones. I turned on the water and turned it to the right temperature. I stood in the bathroom letting the steam fill the room. Than I heard what sounded like foot steps on the stoop. I froze. Why would anyone be even near my house at this hour. Peter was long gone.

I wasted no time still in my sweat pants I ran down the stairs and flung open the door hoping to catch a glimpse of someone and that's when I smelt it. It was a familiar sent and I start to follow it though the surrounding area. I ran into the surrounding forest searching for the smell as it was getting more faint till suddenly with out warning it started to drizzle. Within minutes the rain would be coming down and I'd lose the scent completely. As it started to rain I turned and made my way back to the house.

The night air was cold and even though I had just run about a quarter of a mile the all too familiar chill still rest on my bones. I made my way up the front steps and that's when I saw it a white envelope with my name written on it. Why was there a card on my front steps and who left it? Was someone watching me I wondered as I pick the card up and turned it over to open it. There was no return address. I opened the envelope and withdrew the card inside. It was a real simple card, on the front was a pink heart which seemed to be painted and it rested atop a pale yellow background. I examined the inside and all that was written was a simple line that read " I'm sorry for your loss." Tears whelped up in my eyes and I wondered who would leave this for me and why wouldn't they just tell me? I tucked the card back into its envelope and I glance around one last time. The only thing remaining was the distinct smell of mint mojito gum.
