Author's Notes: Hey, everyone, welcome to my new story. This will be my first time writing an AU so hopefully I manage to get it right, haha. I know the idea of characters in high school isn't the most original idea but I think you all will still enjoy this fun little story of mine. And with my further ado, let's begin.
Chapter One: New Year, Same Shit
It was a new year at Walt Disney High School and all of the students were ready for a fresh start. A new year meant another chance to reinvent themselves, maybe actually join a club or a sport like they always promised themselves every summer.
For one student in particular, Ariel, a new year meant a new chance at love. Every year, Ariel had planned on finally meeting her dream boy and entering into her dream relationship. She was still young so she didn't know what exactly the hurry really was but she was still eager and excited.
The one thing getting in her way even if she did find that special guy was her stubborn father, Triton. Out of all six of her sisters, Ariel was the youngest and by default, she was the one with the least amount of freedom. And of course, dating for her was completely out of the question.
She arrived quickly at school, as her house was just a few blocks away and courtesy of her older sister, Arista for driving her. It was Ariel's junior year and Arista's senior year at Disney High School.
Before Ariel could even exit her sister's used Nissan, a familiar, smiling face was seen through the passenger seat window.
It was one of Ariel's best friends, Belle. She tapped on the car window and waved to Ariel as Ariel rolled down the window.
"Ariel! I've missed you so much!" exclaimed Belle as she motioned in for an embrace.
Belle had been gone on vacation to upstate New York all summer with her father, Maurice and had only been talking to Ariel through texts and Facetime calls.
"Oh, and hi, Arista!" she said happily, waving to her as well.
"Hey, Belle. How was New York?" she asked.
"Oh, it was so nice. The forests and nature in New York is really so beautiful. I took some photos if you or Ariel want to see." Belle replied.
"We would love to!" Ariel said.
Belle quickly took out her phone and began to scroll through all of the pictures of trees, mountains, hills, lakes, rivers and other parts of nature she took while in New York. They were certainly all beautiful shots.
Soon after, Belle and Ariel's other friend, Mulan came walking by.
"Mulan!" Belle exclaimed, her and Mulan's summer situation was the same as hers and Ariel's, meaning they had not seen each other since early June.
"How were your summers without me?" Belle asked jokingly, hugging her two friends.
"Well, we had fun but it wasn't the same without you, Belle. But to be honest, we probably spent most of it lounging around at the beach and binge watching Law And Order and The Office on Netflix on the rainy days." replied Ariel.
"Yeah, pretty much. Too bad you missed out on all of the fun." added Mulan, in a joking manner.
The three of them leaned on the hood of Arista's car, examining the school campus.
To say that the campus at Disney High School was big would be an understatement. The school itself was gigantic and had a huge campus to match. There was also countless students as expected. It was a rather strange school as well, with almost every student having a unique look to them. Their school principal was also a mouse, now that definitely wasn't very ordinary.
While the three of them were still getting lost in the campus scenery, Arista honked her car horn.
"Get off of the hood, guys! I got to park this thing!" she shouted from her window.
Ariel giggled, "Oh come on, Arista. Attina told me you were just like me when she got her first car."
"I was not! Now all of you, get off of my car!" Arista argued back, shooing the three girls away.
The three girls hopped off of the hood and started to walk around. They found a spot under a big oak tree to sit under and continue to examine the campus this year.
Walking by, they saw a super tall and super muscular guy with slick, black hair. Some students smiled as he walked past them and whispered kind things to each other about him.
Identical triplets, Claudette, Laurette and Paulette could have been considered his mini fan club as the nearly fainted as he cracked a small smile at them.
"Oh my god, Belle. Is that the guy you told us about?" asked Ariel, sounding fearful.
"Yeah, that's Gaston." Belle replied, sighing.
"Well, let's hope he doesn't see you." Mulan said, as her and Ariel attempted to cover Belle.
Lucky for them, Gaston didn't see her and instead walked into the school with Claudette, Laurette and Paulette clinging onto his big arms.
"The coast is clear." said Mulan.
"Oh thank god. That jerk never leaves me alone!" said Belle.
"I don't get how people still like him. Like sure, he's good looking and all but he's still a complete dick." added Ariel, looking disgusted.
"Why is he so fixated on me anyway? He knows I don't like him." said Belle.
"Because people always want what they can't have, and in his case, that's you. Gross, I know." replied Mulan.
"Guys are so stupid!" Belle exclaimed, Mulan nodded her head in agreement.
Ariel tried being more optimistic to ease the situation, "Well, I'm still holding out hope."
Belle and Mulan shook their heads at her. With the way guys were at this school, they were surprised she wasn't as jaded and hopeless feeling as they were yet.
Meanwhile, a new student at Disney High School, Jasmine was walking around the school's lawn aimlessly, while trying to study a map.
The map was huge and practically shielded her entire body and of course, the campus was huge too and she just couldn't figure it out. She had just moved to Florida over the summer from Saudi Arabia and while her school there was large too, she was used to it.
After still trying to figure it all out for a while, she gave up and sat at one of the tables on the school lawn. Ideally, she wanted a table all to herself but Disney High was so crowded that it just wasn't an option.
Instead, she found herself sitting at a table shared with five other students but she wanted to just try and ignore them.
"Hey, who are you?" one of them asked.
At first she wasn't paying any attention so she didn't reply.
"Um, are you going to answer?" the student added, this time waving his hand in front of her face.
"Oh, ugh, sorry. I'm Jasmine." she replied, still fixated on figuring out just how this new school operated.
"Well, I'm Kuzco and these are my friends, Megara, Max, Flynn and Elsa." he said, pointing at all of them.
Three of them waved and greeted Jasmine, except for Flynn who was a little preoccupied checking out the girls who were walking around on campus.
"Flynn, will you stop creeping on the girls here for once?" Megara sneered, giving him a light punch in the arm.
"What? Oh nevermind, sorry." Flynn said, he was still pretty out of it.
Everyone at the table sighed, it was just typical Flynn behavior, nothing exactly new there.
"Aye, don't be sighing at me, Max. You do the same thing with that Roxanne chick every time you see her!" Flynn teased, causing Max's cheeks to turn bright red.
"Who's Roxanne?" Jasmine asked, now more interested in the conversation. She had almost completely forgotten about not getting lost as she realized making new friends wasn't such a bad idea after all.
"She's this girl in Max's art class this year, he's totally crazy about her, he totally wants to marry her, he has wild dreams about her all the time and everything." replied Kuzco jokingly.
"I do not! I just really like her, that's all, okay?" Max fired back.
"Yeah, sure, that's all." said Flynn, laughing at his friend's attempt to save face.
"I mean, I don't really blame Max, Roxanne is a really cool girl." added Elsa.
"She also happens to be one of my best friends and I swear to god, Max, if by the off chance she actually likes you, you better not break her heart or else your ass is grass." said Megara, sounding a little annoyed.
"Don't worry, Meg. It's not like I even got a chance with her anyway." Max replied, sighing.
"Aww, sure you do, buddy. You just got to take Kuzco and I's advice for once!" said Flynn.
Elsa snubbed her nose, "Max, you would have to be special kind of stupid to take either of these geeks' advice." she teased.
"Elsa's totally right. Don't let either of these two's little casanova acts fool you, Jasmine, they're both phonies." said Megara.
"Don't worry, nothing ever fools me and these two aren't particularly convincing." said Jasmine, finally meshing a little better with the group.
"Ooh, someone's a bit feisty. So what's your story anyway, you know, aside from being incredibly hot?" inquired Flynn.
"First off, don't ever say that to me again and secondly, I just moved here last month from Saudi Arabia." replied Jasmine.
"Saudi Arabia? What made you move over here then?" asked Elsa.
"My dad is the head of a big oil company and got a really good business deal here in the states. I was actually supposed to go to some expensive, preppy school but I heard public school builds more character." Jasmine replied.
"Ah, so you're a pretty rich girl, huh? I can relate." said Kuzco.
"Yeah, millionaire boy over here gets whatever his little heart desires." added Megara, now filing her fingernails out of boredom.
"Hey, it's not like I'm some big brat or anything, I think someone is a little jealous." teased Kuzco.
"In your dreams, dickhead. Anyway, I've got to get to class. I'll see you around, Jasmine." said Megara before taking off.
"Yeah, me too, I'll see you guys." said Max, also leaving the table and taking off.
That left just Kuzco, Flynn, Elsa and Jasmine together at the table. Jasmine was hoping Elsa wouldn't be the next to leave since Kuzco and Flynn didn't seem very reliable to give her directions around school.
"What class do you have first period?" asked Elsa.
"I've got English first thing in the morning with that nut, Mr. Frollo. Yeah, I'm definitely skipping it today." replied Flynn.
"Ugh, me too. I'm not really trying to go either." added Kuzco.
"Well, first off I wasn't asking you guys, I was asking Jasmine. And are you two really going to skip class on the first day?" asked Elsa, looking defeated.
"You would too if you had to deal with Psycho...er, I mean Frollo." said Kuzco, laughing a little bit.
Elsa sighed, "Ugh, you two really are hopeless." she said, laughing back at them.
"Anyway, what class do you have, Jasmine?" she asked.
Jasmine took a look of her schedule, she had completely forgotten it after being so focused on actually figuring out how this school even operated. She peered over the extremely crumpled up piece of paper and saw that it read "chemistry class with Ms. Yzma".
"Oh damn, Ms. Yzma is a real piece of work." said Elsa.
"You bet she is, the lady hates my guts for like, no reason!" Kuzco exclaimed.
"That might be because you slipped a roach in her coffee on April Fools Day sophomore year." said Elsa, giggling.
That was supposed to make her laugh, I swear!" Kuzco fought back but no one was exactly buying it.
"Come on, Jasmine. I'll help you get to class. Let's leave these two to their own idiotic devices." she added, leading Jasmine into the school.
Unlike her older sister, Elsa who kept only to a tight friend group, Anna wanted to make as many friends as possible and while she already had many, she wanted to see just how many new ones she could make this school year.
Just a few minutes before first period started, she saw three girls she had never really talked to before. These girls were in fact the triplets, Claudette, Laurette and Paulette. Anna never really saw them interact with anyone but each other and decided maybe she could be their friend.
The triplets, however, didn't seem as interested as when Anna tried to walk over and introduce herself, they ignored her for their main focus- Gaston. Anna walked away in defeat. However, when she did walk back, she saw someone who would definitely cheer her up. It was none other than one of her best friends, Aurora.
"Hey, don't let the Bimbettes get you down. Their only focus is on Gaston." she said.
"I guess you're right, but I just wish some girls would quit fawning over him already." said Anna.
"I mean, can you blame them? He's rich, loved by all and let's not forget, totally gorgeous." Aurora replied.
"Are you trying to say you like him too now?" Anna asked, looking a little annoyed.
"Well, who doesn't like Gaston one way or another? But no, I don't really have a crush on him. I've got my sights set on that guy from summer camp I told you about, right?" replied Aurora, looking all lovey dovey.
"Yeah, Phillip, right? The guy you said is 'totally dreamy'?" said Anna.
"Totally dreamy and totally goes to this school." added Aurora, smiling.
"He does? You didn't tell me that." Anna replied.
"I didn't know until today, I spotted him on the lawn this morning. He looks cuter than I remembered." Said Aurora with virtual hearts forming in her eyes.
Then the final bell rung and they had to go to class. They hadn't heard who was going to be in their math class but they knew they had geometry this year.
"I really hope we don't have too many jerks in our class this year." Said Anna as her and Aurora were trying to find available seats next to each other in the class room.
"Yeah, what a shitty day to start the morning that would be!" exclaimed Aurora.
There were only a few other students in the room so far and neither girls recognized any of them except for one.
"Oh my god, that Beast guy is in our class this year." whispered Aurora, pointing to a seat in the very back corner of the classroom. There sat a kid only known to the study body as "Beast", he never spoke and people barely saw his face as he covered it with his jacket hood at all times. He never spoke to anyone and whenever anyone tried to speak to him, he told them to go away.
"Isn't he a junior, why is he in geometry? It's a sophomore class." Added Anna, trying her best to whisper.
Before Aurora could answer, more and more students began piling into the class room.
Lucky for both of them, their friend Snow White and her boyfriend Florian (A/N: and if you don't know the prince in Snow White is named Florian) were in their class this year. Anna quickly got their attention.
"Snow White, Florian, sit by us!" She shouted from across the room and Snow White and Florian both found seats behind Anna and Aurora and next to each other.
Aurora and Anna tried to make conversation with them but the couple was too focused on each other, Snow White was giggling at everything he said and he was making lovey dovey faces at her.
"God, they are so sickeningly sweet." Said Anna.
"I know, emphasis on sickening!" Aurora said, laughing.
"You say that now but I bet when you and Phillip get together, you guys are going to be the same way." Anna replied jokingly.
"Key word, if. Who says he's even interested?" Asked Aurora, sighing.
"I think he could be, I mean why not?" replied Anna.
"You really think I have a chance?" Aurora asked.
"I know you do!" Anna said, smiling.
—
For second period this year, Max had art and his teacher was Ms. Deville. Most people agreed that she was a certified nut but she mostly kept to herself at the desk in the corner of her class room. Max liked art but knew this year he would like it even better. Why, you ask? Because this year he had Roxanne in his class.
All of his friends knew he had a crush on Roxanne but he liked to play down the extent of it by claiming he just "kinda likes her" but it was more than that. He didn't just kinda like her, he really liked her. Hell, sometimes he even had dreams about him and her being together as a couple.
She wasn't anything like the girls he had crushes on previously. Usually he just liked the typical snobby popular knockout type of girls. Roxanne was definitely very pretty but she was also kind, down to earth and sometimes even seemed just as nervous about things as Max was.
Max was late to class today and therefore was the last to find a seat. There were 5 tables set up in the class room that could hold 4 students each. The only table that had an extra seat was the one smack in the middle of the class room. There sat Pocahontas, Megara and of course, Roxanne.
Max was fine with sitting with Pocahontas, she had been his friend since middle school always had his back. And he was definitely more than happy to sit with Roxanne but it was Megara he was worried about. Sure, they were friends but Megara would probably literally behead Max if he hurt Roxanne in any way. At the very least though, Max was glad Kuzco and Flynn weren't in this class, they meant well but were horrible at keeping secrets.
"H-hi, Max. It's good to see you here." Roxanne greeted him, stuttering.
"Oh hey, Roxanne. I-it's cool to see you here too." Max replied, also stuttering.
Suddenly, Roxanne's binder had fallen off the table and onto the floor. Both her and Max raced to the floor to retrieve it.
"Thanks, Max." She said, blushing as pushed back a piece of her hair.
Megara and Pocahontas could hear the awkward conversation from up there as Megara made a puking face, Pocahontas tried to contain her laughter. Then Pocahontas' phone vibrated, it was a text from Meg:
god they are both soooo awkward around each other
Pocahontas tried to hold back her laughter yet again and texted Megara back:
i know but i find it so sweet tbh
After Max and Roxanne got back up, Ms. Deville walked up to the front of the classroom to make an announcement.
"Good morning, class. I see some of you have already gotten comfortable and have your phones out. However, this is a class to learn art, not text, so put them away." she said, glaring at both Megara and Pocahontas.
What followed was a long winded rant about how the students knew nothing in regards to art and how Ms. Deville knew everything there was to know. However, most kids zoned out around five minutes into it.
After she was finished speaking, she handed out the typical class contracts students always get at the beginning of the year to sign.
Max looked over at Roxanne's contract which was signed in near perfect cursive writing.
"Wow, you have r-really nice handwriting." He said, desperate to say anything to her.
"Thanks, Max. So do you." She replied, blushing.
Megara scowled at Pocahontas once again, she really hated seeing acts of love, no matter how sickeningly sweet or cute they were.
Soon after, the bell rung and all of the students quickly left the class room.
"I hope I'll see you later, Max." Said Roxanne, smiling and waving goodbye to him.
"Yeah, me too." Replied Max, trying to make his blushing go away as he also left the room.
