Obviously a modern AU as the Yankee's don't form until 1901 (and aren't based in NY until 1903), the Mets don't exist until 1962 as one of the earliest MLB expansion teams, and the Giants and Dodgers move to Francisco and Los Angels in 1957. But it amuses me to think of them all being loyal to current and former New York teams… so yeah, Modern AU Newsies story, in honor of the World Series. Also, for the record, I'm rooting for Kansas City.
Okay, so I wrote this three weeks ago, during Game 5 of the Series actually. Twas rooting for Kansas City, but had the sneaking feeling the Giants where gonna win it. Anyways, published this on tumblrr then had the thought that I should post my stuff on here. So here we are. Enjoy. -NCIS
Jack learned very quickly that it was a bad idea to talk baseball during baseball season with Katherine, Smalls, and Spot. Smalls was a Yankee's fan, Spot was a Dodgers fan (his excuse being 'They used to be Brooklyn, I stays loyal to Brooklyn'), Katherine was a Mets fan, and he was a fan of the Giants. Not that he didn't get quite passionate about his team (he did), but Katherine, Smalls, and Spot took it to a whole other level.
They probably spent more time arguing about their teams histories, player stats, and the rules than they did watching the game half the time. It was scary how well they knew the game… he'd almost considered starting a YouTube channel to have them talk baseball.
But the downside to that was they got scary passionate during baseball season and more than once they'd had to be physically separated just watching the game on TV. If they were at a ball game, you had a better chance of them keeping it down, unless it was a Yankee's/Met's. When it was one of those games, the more people sitting between Katherine and Smalls the better. The first time they'd gone as a group they'd almost been thrown out… it was not an experience they were willing to repeat.
So of course this year, in between lamenting that their teams didn't make the World Series and arguing with each other about specific players on their teams, they cheered on Kansas City. To annoy him further. He frankly wanted to slap them all… even if Spot scared the shit outta him, Smalls wouldn't let him within five inches, and Katherine was his girlfriend.
Still, he reflected, splitting his attention between the game on the TV and the slightly overcrowded apartment (what, did half of Manhattan decide to watch Game 5 in his apartment?), he wouldn't have it any other way. He had his family and at the end of the day he didn't know where he'd have been without all their crazy asses.
Still, it didn't mean he didn't want a Giant's victory…
