Chapter 1: Royal Class

"Eirika; are you ready?"

Ephraim struggled with putting on his tie for his first day at his new school. "I'm one of the best lance men in the country, yet I can't put on simple tie?"

His friend, Tana walked over to him and fixed it for him. "There you go, Ephraim. All done."

"Thanks, Tana."

Next to the two was Innes, Tana's put the tie on with no difficulty. "Ephraim, you're pitiful."

"No need to rub it in!" Ephraim shouted.

"Sorry for the wait!" At that moment, Ephraim's sister, Eirika came rushing down the stairs.

Fado; King of Renais and father of Eirika and Ephraim walked over to her. "What took you so long? You could've ended up late on your first day."

She bowed apolegetically in response. "Sorry, father." She ran to the door, the other three waiting for her. "Goodbye, father!" She waved as she exited. The other three following.

"Hey!" The four of them were called out, and naturally they turned to see who it was.

Franz and Forde, two of their good friends approached them. "Good morning." Said the former.

His older brother slapped his brother's back. "Franz here is going to be in your class."

In response to the news, Tana clasped her hands together. "That's amazing! What about you?"

"I'm your gym teacher." Forde answered.

Innes face palmed, chuckling slightly. "My, my…"

Franz laughed. "I know; it's sure to be fun!"

Forde lightly punched his brother's head. "No special treatment."

"Oh…" Franz sulked.

Tana continued walking ahead of them. "Let's get going, guys!"

"P-please, leave me alone…" A young blonde woman, dressed in a Renais academy uniform backed away from some guys who had backed her into an alley.

"C'mon, sweetie, why're you running?"

"I-I'm on my way to school and don't want to be late..."

One of the slammed against the wall of a building, startling her. "Do you think we give a damn?" A rock hit him in the head, causing him to turn around. "Who's there?!"

It was a young man with long red hair, wearing a similar uniform. "Leave the girl alone now."

The threat caused one of them to laugh. "Why listen to a little runt like you?"

"Simple." He picked up something that was leaning against a building, hidden from their view; a scabbard. "I could have you both dead in seconds."

"You wouldn't dare!"

He walked closer, gripping the blade. "Try me." The two fled, jumping over a fence that was in the alley.

After her assailants fled, the young woman turned to her savior. "Thank you..."

The young man examined her for a moment. "You're a student at the Renais Academy?"

She nodded in response. "You are too? You're wearing a similar uniform."

He turned around and smirked. "I am; we might just see each other again. What's your name?"

"N-Natasha Collins..." She shyly told him.

He began walking out of the alley. "Joshua Jehanna. See you later."

Eirika anxiously looked around the classroom. She ceased this when the teacher opened the door.

He was a man not much older than the class; in his early twenties. Glasses rested in his neat blonde hair. As he neared the chalk board in the front, he put them on the bridge of his nose and began writing. "Morning, class; my name is Glen Surge." He turned around, facing them with a smile on his face. "I'll be your homeroom and history teacher.

There was silence for a short time as Glen scanned the room. "We've quite the impressive class. I'm sure you all noticed, but..."

He gestured to Ephraim. "Among our ranks are Prince Ephraim of Renais," then to Eirika. "And his sister, Princess Eirika." Next, he focused on Innes and Tana, who were sitting next to each other. "Prince Innes and Princess Tana of Frelia." A young man in the back who was reading a book was his next target. "Prince Lyon of Grado is here as well."

Lyon looked down from his book and waved to the class.

Glen looked at a young man who seemed as if he was paying little attention. "And Prince Joshua of Jehanna." Glen noticed a young man who was staring out of a window and smirked. "He may not be royalty, but my brother Cormag is here too."

Glen readjusted his glasses. "To start off, how about we all get to know each other a little better?"

The bell rung, causing Eirika to walk over to her brother. "Wanna go say hi to Lyon?" He nodded, and they two approached their friend.

He looked from his book as the neared his desk. "Hello you two, is class over?"

"You must really like that book!" Eirika giggled.

He stood up and stretched. "We have math next, right?"

Ephraim nodded. "Like, Glen, our math teacher is pretty young."

As the three of them left, Tana walked up to Cormag's desk. "Hello, there."

He looked up at her from his bag. "Hey."

She bit his lip. "Um... is that all you have to say?"

He stood from his seat. "I prefer to be silent." He began walking out the door, but was stopped by Tana.

"Could you give me a tour sometime?" She asked.

"I don't know this school, either. We'd just get lost." He told her with a snicker.

Tana grabbed his hand. "We'll talk more about that later, then; let's get going.

Cormag let out a sigh. "Why are you so excited? This isn't a theater; this is school."

Joshua watched as the two left, unaware of the blonde standing beside his desk. "Um, excuse me?"

He turned to Natasha, a smile appearing on his face. "Hello there, Miss Collins."

She looked at the ground. "Hello..."

He stood up, and stood next to her. "What do you need?"

She looked back up at him. "I wanted to know if you'd like to go on a walk after school."

He began walking, her pursuing. "A beautiful girl such as you wants to go on a walk with someone such as me?"

"It's not because you're a royal or anything; I want to repay you for this morning in someway."

The girls stared at the man who stood at the head of the class.

Innes groaned and turned to Ephraim; the two of them, along with their sisters, sat in a square. "Why are the teachers in this school so attractive?" His friend shrugged.

Lyon, who was sitting next to Ephraim glanced at them from behind his book. "As far as I know, there's him, Glen and Forde that are all this young."

"I hope that's all." Ephraim said.

The man turned from the board, which read 'Seth Simmons'. "As you can see, my name is Seth Simmons. Nice to meet you all." The girls practically melted, resulting in either groaning or dirty looks from the guys.

Cormag groaned as well, but for another reason. "Quit being babies! It doesn't matter if the girls are gaga over him! It won't last long!"

Seth laughed at what Cormag said. "You're right, Cormag. I'm sure it won't be too long before I'm nothing more than a teacher to you."

Tana smiled at him and leaned closer to whisper to him. "Why'd you do that?"

Her question caused him to shrug. "No too sure; jealousy just pisses me of, I guess."

Seth pulled out a large textbook. As he flipped through it, he said, "Before I begin; I want to tell you all that I'm free on Wednesdays and Fridays for extra help."

Most of the girls in the class moaned. "I guess that means that a lot of the girls are good at math." Tana commented.

Eirika looked out the window. "I'm not."

Innes chuckled. "You'll be able to spend plenty of time with out knight there then."

"It'll be for work only." She told him, her face red.

In the front of the class sat a little boy, who caught Lyon's eye. "Odd, why is a child here?"

"I've heard that there are three apparent geniuses that got into the Academy despite being a few years too young. I assume he's one of them." Ephraim informed his friend.

The bell rang after what seemed to be and endless class; some people were fine with that, while other's weren't. Afterwards, the little group had gym; heading to their respective locker rooms to change.

Innes approached the small red headed boy who was in his class prior. "Just who are you, kid?"

Before he could answer, another boy ran over to him. "Ewan, what's taking you so long?" He looked at Innes once he noticed him.

"Sorry, sir. I'm Ewan, and this is Ross. I think I understand why you're curios about us. Our friend Amelia is with the girls."

The answer he was given caused Innes to stroke his chin. "All three of the apparent geniuses are in my gym class."

Forde, got things set on your Side?" Forde turned to his friend and partner, Kyle.

"I'm set!" He then cleared his throat. "Very well, for our first activity, we'll be splitting you all up into teams; so we'll be mixing our classes."
