A/N: This isn't your typical Gilmore Girls story. I am going back…back to the beginning. This is an idea that I have been playing around with in my head. I hope that you guys like it.

Chapter 1: The beginning

Everyone knows the story. The story about the birth of the girl that was born out of wedlock. Lorelai Gilmore and Christopher Hayden gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in the fall of 1984. They named her Lorelai Leigh Gilmore-Hayden. They nicknamed her Leigh. When Leigh was three months old Lorelai and Christopher realized that they couldn't be parents. They felt that they were too young to be parents. Lorelai took off to New York to find herself and Christopher…well Christopher talked to his parents and they agreed to raise Leigh.

Leigh attended Chilton from the very beginning. Her friends included Paris, Madeline, Louise, Tristin, Logan and Colin. The seven of them were inseparable…at least until high school. When they started high school Logan and Colin got sent to boarding school where they made two new friends that just happened to be from Hartford. Finn and Stephanie.

The summer after 9th grade everyone was united and they got to meet Stephanie and Finn. It turned out that Leigh and Stephanie were actually cousins. Everyone was completely shocked when Logan and Colin returned for the summer. Colin was still the same dorky kid that they had always known, but Logan…Logan was different. Leigh found herself staring at him and seeing him different. It didn't help that when they were at parties, that girls were constantly falling all over him.

Leigh, Paris and Stephanie were standing nearby watching. Stephanie noticed that Leigh was watching Logan. "Maybe you should go talk to him?" Stephanie said.

"Nah, he looks a little busy at the moment." Leigh said. "I think I'm going to go find Tristin and see if he wants to dance." Leigh headed off in the direction that she had last seen Tristin.

Paris turned to Stephanie. "You know that this is going to end badly right?" Paris said.

"Not our place." Stephanie said to Paris and Paris agreed.

Leigh POV

I was walking through the ballroom trying to find Tristin, when my Grandmother cornered me. "Leigh, there you are." Grandma said.

"Hi Grandma, I was just looking for a friend of mine." I said.

"Well, you can go in just a minute. I wanted to introduce you to someone." She said.

"Sure." I said, smiling and looking at the woman that Grandma had just been talking to. "Hello, I'm Leigh." I said.

"Hi, Leigh. It's nice to meet you. I'm Victoria. Your father and I went to school together many years ago." She said. She was very pretty.

I turned back to Grandma. "May I be excused now?" I asked.

She nodded. "Of course. Be sure to say good-bye before you leave."

"Of course Grandma." I said, heading off once again to find Tristin.

Francine POV

I watched Leigh walk off to find her friends and I turned back to the familiar face in front of me. "She's grown up so much." She said to me.

"Yes, she has. She reminds me of you at that age." I told her, taking a sip of my Martini.

"Does she ever see my parents?"

I shook my head. "No. She said that she didn't a reminder of a mother that was never there." I took another drink. "It's been nice seeing you." I said, and headed off to find Christopher. He needed a reminder of his daughter that he rarely saw.

Leigh POV

I had looked all over the ballroom and I still hadn't been able to find Tristin. I decided to walk outside and get some fresh air. Seeing Logan with that girl…I don't know…I just didn't like it. He had changed so much since last summer. He wasn't my same friend that I had grown up with. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I turned around. Tristin. "Hey, I've been looking for you." I said.

"Yeah, I found Paris and Steph and they told me." He said. I nodded. "You okay?" He asked me.

"Not really. I was gonna see if you wanted to dance." I said.

"Sure. Come on." Tristin said, taking my hand and leading me inside. We made our way to the dance floor and joined the others that were dancing. "You know…you look really pretty tonight." Tristin said.

I felt myself blush. "Thanks. You always know how to make me feel better." I told him. I couldn't help but smile every time that I was around Tristin.

"I try. You wanna get out of here and go get some coffee?" He asked.

I nodded. "I just have to say goodbye to my grandparents." I said. "How about I meet you out front in five minutes?" I asked and he nodded. I headed off to find my grandparents. I found them near the dessert table. They were talking to some friends of theirs. "Excuse me, I'm sorry to interrupt." I said to Grandma. She turned toward me. "I'm heading out with Tristin." I told her.

She stepped away to me. "Of course dear. Just make sure your at the house for breakfast. Your father is in town and he's bringing a friend." She said.

"Of course Grandma. Can I invite Tristin?" I asked.

She shook her head. "Not this time, dear. Just family." Grandma said.

"Of course Grandma." I said. After I finished saying good-bye to Grandma, I headed out front to meet Tristin when I bumped into Logan. "Oh…hi." I said.

"Hey, you heading out?" He asked.

"Yeah. Too many warm and fuzzies in here for me." I said. Logan nodded.

"Yeah, I know the feeling. My parents spotted me and I had to duck out." He said.

I was standing there enjoying my conversation when Tristin appeared next to me. "Oh crap!" I said, when I saw him. "I'm sorry. I ran into Logan and got distracted." I told Tristin.

"I figured someone probably stopped you and held you up." He said.

"Yeah, that's my fault." Logan said.

"Yeah sure." Tristin said. He turned and looked at me. "You ready to head out?" He asked me.

"Yeah I'm ready." I said to Tristin. I turned back to Logan to say good-night and he looked shocked that I was leaving with Tristin. "Bye Logan. I'll see you around." I said and Tristin and I left.

I wasn't sure what was going on but what I did know was that things were changing. It was summer and the possibilities were limitless. Anything could happen. Logan had changed during the last year and now all of the slutty girls in Hartford were swooning all over him. There was something about Tristin though…something different…something that I hadn't seen before. And that wasn't even the half of it. My Dad was back…and he was back for good. I guess this meant that he was actually going to try and be a parent.

Summer would come and go and before I knew it was time to head back to school. Time to make the freshman suffer…

And to think this was only the beginning…
