A night of farewells

"Hey, Sakuya." Upon hearing the voice, the sliver haired maid turned around, only to see her husband and co-worker, Mei Ling, standing right behind her. "Mei ling, what are you doing here?" she asked with deep concern.

Being a gatekeeper of the Scarlet mansion, it is her job to chase out offensive invaders, so it's pretty quite often to see her all battered up. Only tonight however, her face looks more haggard than usual, her face is completely covered in blood (presumably her own blood mixed with her intruders', splattered on to her pretty face), cuts and bruises. "Glad you are here, I am just about to look for you, and oh gosh, you are a mess…" it pains her heart seeing her husband in this state as Sakuya caressed her loving Mei Ling's face with a torn expression.

"I heard that there was a fight at the gate, was everything alright?" Sakuya asked.

"Yup, there was a fight, but it has already been dealt with don't need to worry." Mei Ling answered, heavily sighing out before adding on, "I am just here to tell you that there are still some things that need to be taken care of, so I won't be coming back tonight… are you listening, Sakuya?"

"I'm listening, that sounds tough… Is there anything I can help with?"

"Nah, it's just some menial labour anyway… you know… just dumping away the corpses before they stink up the place with their rotting…"

"Fine… I leave it to you then, don't overdo it then…" Sakuya's worried tone bothers Mei Ling to a point that she tugs her wife closer and pushed their foreheads together as a sign of comfort and assurance. "You better get some sleep too; I noticed that you haven't been feeling well lately…"

"You noticed?" Sakuya responded in surprise, she obviously hadn't noticed it herself.

"Of course I did, just how long have we been together, dummy?"

"Thanks, I will be mindful…"

The spouses were already close enough for a kiss.

They slowly moved…

Moved closer…

And they pushed their lips against each other.

Mei Ling could felt her eyes well up with tears.

Tears of regret, tears of sadness and of pain… those tears of hers had multiple meanings…

The pain of having to be separated from her wife is now even more painful than those arrows sticking into her body, the gunshots that ripped through her limbs, and those swords that puncture through her flesh…

As the saying goes… nothing is more painful than the pain of separation. She had experienced it enough, she had enough of this fucked up sadness that is ripping up them both.

"I better go…"

Sakuya nodded in agreement with a sudden gleam in her eyes – she felt her pain too. Forcing herself to smile, she said one more sentence, hoping to send her voice as a parting gift of sorts… "Just… don't overdo it… alright…?" Sakuya knew that this would be their last…

Mei Ling and Sakuya held each other's hand…

The simple holding turned into a tight grip.

I don't want to die…
