Kudos to whoever catches the Moulin Rouge reference.
"Scorpius please just listen." Scorpius shook his head and turned away from the pleading Albus. "Albus I thought we talked about this already." Albus grabbed his arm and pulled him back. "No, you talked and just assumed I agreed. I never said a word either way." Scorpius sighed and tried to pull his arm away. The Charms corridor was always empty at this time of night and he knew Albus would have double checked like he usually did but he was trying to explain he couldn't be with him. It just wouldn't do to be cozying up to the guy you were trying to break up with. "Albus you know this can never happen. Your father…and then MY father…and we went over this," Scorpius knew he was floundering. "Scorpius." Said boy froze and let out a resigned sigh. Albus had used The Voice, meaning this was much more important than Scorpius had realized and Albus was actually getting angry which meant he should probably start listening. But if he listened he'd give in and he hadn't practiced in front of the mirror for an hour for nothing.
"Scorpius," Albus continued as though he didn't know of Scorpius' internal battle. "We could be lovers." Scorpius shook his head and tore his arm free. "We can't do that Albus." Albus didn't even pause. "We could be lovers, and that is a fact." He paused dramatically. "I want to be and so do you. So far the only problem I'm seeing is you are a coward." Scorpius opened his mouth to argue and shut it again at Albus' look. "I, however, have enough courage for the both of us. Therefore I think you should be in charge of the petty things that seem to bother you so much and my job can be keeping you safe and reminding you why you're with me." Scorpius opened his mouth. "Having nice clothing and knowing which fork to use is not petty." Scorpius frowned as Albus hastily coughed behind his hand. That hadn't been what he meant to say. "What I'm getting at is that we complement each other. You can keep me straight at tea parties and help me with my homework and I can…protect you and stuff." Scorpius rolled his eyes and swallowed dryly. "Oh thank you protector of the universe."
Albus stared at him and he sighed. Really this boy brought out the worst in him. "I suppose I must. I mean, really, who else could deflect my Father's curses? You are rather like a crup; maybe you can be trained like one too." Albus rolled his eyes. "Of course Scorpius: I need you and not the other way around." Scorpius smirked and looped an arm through Albus'. "Absolutely. Now, I was thinking we invite them both for dinner and tell them before they can curse each other. It may even keep them quiet for the rest of the meal. Maybe we could invite your sister and aunt to keep the conversation running; they're rather reliable sort are they not?" Albus smirked back and pulled Scorpius into a door he swore hadn't been there before. "Sounds like a plan. If you're lucky it might even work, though since it came from you I doubt it." Before Scorpius could reply indignantly Albus had pushed him inside and kicked the door shut and he forgot what he was complaining about.
