Luna was the definition of a single lady. She had always been a loner and her love life was no different. She was just too weird. And deep down inside it still stung to this day, even though she had accept the fact along time ago.
But she made the most of it. Her dad had been her best friend as a child and it was still that way. He always reminded her that she was special, and if other people couldn't see that then they were the crazy ones. When she went to Hogwarts she made some good friends like Neville and Ginny and Harry. For some reason she and Hermione never clicked. In the end her life was good, with a boy or without one.
Luna was sitting at a bench in a park. The sun shone down on the page she was reading of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. She found the book fascinating, but also frustrating and offensive that nargles and crumple-horned snorkacks were not mentioned in the slightest.
"'Ello there!" said a male voice and Luna looked up to see a freckled man with wavy blonde hair.
"Hello!" replied Luna. Immediately she liked this man. He wasn't afraid to talk to strangers.
He sat down next to her. "I couldn't help notice that you're reading. I hate to interrupt, but whenever I see someone reading in public I have to say hello and see what they're reading. So what's the book?"
Luna held it up.
"Oh! My granddad wrote that!"
"Really? How interesting!"
"What do you think?"
"I love it except that there is no mention of nargles or crumple-horned snorkacks or several other creatures!"
The boy's face lit up. "You believe in nargles too?"
"Of course! I have this necklace," she untucked her butterbeer cork necklace out of her shirt, "to keep them away."
"Nice! Ya, I believe my granddad didn't put them in his book because there isn't much evidence for them, but I've always dreamed of going on an adventure to find evidence so that the wizarding community can finally accept them."
Luna smiled. "That's a brilliant idea!"
The boy looked at his lap sheepishly. "What if... what if we did it together? But only if you want to!"
"Yes! I'd love to! I'm flattered to be asked. It sounds wonderful, er... I just realized I don't know you name."
He stuck out his hand. "Rolf. Rolf Scamander."
She took it. "Luna. Luna Lovegood."
He checked his watch. "Well it's time for me to go, but It was a pleasure to meet you. I'll send you an owl."
"I'll be waiting for it."
Luna watched him leave smiling. Maybe her love life wasn't so hopeless after all.
