Wisdom Revealed

Forgiveness

This news always comes too fast. Don's never ready.

Year after year, he spends an entire day devoted to the memory of beloved lovers.

Friends.

Good, meaningful lives now gone.

Nikki, Leah… Why did Kim have to leave, too?

Don clearly hasn't kept his promise. "I'll protect you." What a lie.

Beside Kim's last place on earth, he remembers the graves that exist, partly, because of him.

He just wants to forget, but he can't forgive. He can't forgive himself.

He doesn't want to feel his love for all those women. locked away in his heart.

But he will.

Forever.

Starting over

There's this hunger for guidance Don can't stop.

Hopeless, he trusts this book knows everything. Everything. Including what's in his heart.

The Torah, source of all wisdom.

As he flips its sacred pages, he wonders what path he'll follow – what beliefs will define his future.

The violence, the undercover assignments, the killing. Tonight, as he lies in bed, Don ponders if he could live without all that. But he also wonders if he'll stay the same.

Robin holds his hand, kisses his lips, wants to protect him from harm.

She hopes this book has the power to save Don's soul.

Humanity

Humanity is a revelation.

Short, soft cries caress his every sense and, amazed, he reaches for the child that Robin has brought into this world.

Sometimes, between duty and work, he forgets one irrefutable truth – yes, he's FBI, but he's also human.

He's the witness to the most beautiful miracle. This little fellow, this little boy whose sweet head rests now in Don's hand… He is the answer to everything.

So Don smiles and lets tears fall down. This is the kind of wisdom he's been longing for – the one that doesn't come from a book, but from life itself.

Generations

Don treasures this moment.

He's got his father, his brother, his wife by his side. Together as a family.

This place makes it hard for him to stay immune to the emotions that arise. Especially when looking down, watching tiny baby Aaron sleep, the joy of this reunion meets the fear of future failure.

He wishes his child has to see no evil nor experience any loss, even if it's obvious that someday Don himself won't be there to protect him.

He smiles truthfully, caresses his child's soft hair and meditates on his choices. He can do this. He's left the FBI behind. He's a new man. He's wiser, he has the ability to look back and not regret everything he's done.

He has the ability to teach a life philosophy, pass it to his son.

"Don, Are you okay?" Robin whispers into his ear.

His gaze goes back to his only legacy on Earth. There's not always a right or wrong answer. Don accepts this enigma.

"I will be," he whispers, as the silence of the synagogue gets to his bones and darkness closes in.

The pain will fade away. Just like the memory of a long lost love.

The End.
