Firsts and Lasts
Spoilers for River's story arc, particularly The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon and I guess kinda The Wedding of River Song, Sweetie.
The Doctor watched captivated as the fire licked around the eye of the tessalecta. It was a bizarre sight, watching yourself burn. He couldn't imagine what it was like for his family on the beach, only River knowing the truth. He leant closer to the glass, absently reaching out his hand, before yelping and pulling it back, shaking and blowing on it, the hot surface scalding his hand.
Shoving his fingers in his mouth he moved away and turned back to his ship. Once inside he shook his hand once more and began setting the coordinates for his first stop as a dead person.

River was still staring in horror at the space where the TARDIS had dematerialised in front of her. Her lips still tingled from the kiss and her whole body was beginning to shake terribly at the awkwardness of it all. His arms flailing around her, hands so almost resting on her shoulders before his ridiculous form wiggled them away and she pulled back realising her mistake.
"He had no idea what he was missing out on by walking away, I'll never know what you see in him."
She spun around to see her Doctor leaning smugly on his ship. Beaming she tilted her head in surprise. "You took the brakes off!"
"Yeah, someone taught me how." A wink. "So, Doctor Song, I just flew out of a tessalecta." Before she could respond with anything more than a wider grin, he moved toward her and kissed her soundly. Without the awkward flailing.
After long minutes she pulled away smiling. "Hello."
"Hello," he grinned back, tugging her toward her cot, kissing a hand before clutching them both on his lap.
She hit him lightly on the arm. "So...your firsts aren't always my lasts, hey?"
His grin grew. "Nope. Not always."
"Glad to hear it." She kissed him again.
"Well, since I expected a slap I'm delighted!"
"I'm just glad to see you. It's been a while since I had an older you." She traced a finger down his arm, entwining her fingers with his on her lap. She rested her head on his shoulder. "So what brings you here?"
"It's my wedding night! I wanted to spend it with my wife of course!"
She smiled, clasping his hand between both of hers. "Well, then I'm definitely glad to see you. Did you enjoy the pyramid?"
He pulled away, forcing her to look at him. "Immensely, River Song. I enjoyed it immensely. Trains with offices, killer eye patches, your parents remembering each other again and you. Magnificent you, being magnificent." He dropped a kiss on her nose.
"You said I embarrassed you."
His eyebrows popped up in surprise. "It was so long ago for you, River. Have we not discussed this?" She shook her head, eyes lowered. "Alright, I did say that. And I was embarrassed, for all the wrong reasons. But I was also so very proud of you. Even incredibly so young and reckless River Song, you saved me. You pulled time apart. But you saved me. Even if it meant never touching me again."
"Then you married me." A hand stroked his bow tie.
"Yes. Definitely the best part of the day. Especially that snog. Course, I much prefer them now that I'm not all roboty." To prove his point his lips met hers again.
"So you're staying?" A cheeky grin.
"Course I'm staying. Where else would I go? I'm a dead man on his honeymoon with his homicidal wife." She swatted his arm playfully before jumping to her feet and pulling him toward the TARDIS.
"Come on then, no firsts or lasts in sight Doctor! Let's make the most of it!"
