Uncertain
A Ron/Hermione drabble by Kara
Disclaimer: I don't own anything out of Harry Potter. I do, however, own my notebook that I write all these lies in.
A/N: I was in the mood to write a drabble the other night, so this just came out. I got the inspiration from JK Rowling's comments on Hermione:
"I hope that it is clear that underneath Hermione's swottiness there is a lot of insecurity..."
My format felt a bit off when I was re-reading it, but due to the insistence of my friends that it was good, it's up here now. This is unbeta-ed, with only minor editing. Raw format, folks.
All reviews and constructive criticism are welcome.
Hermione learned at an early age that she was going to have to make herself more important than others in order to succeed. That was one of the reasons she didn't have any muggle friends.
When she was in grade school, she had been picked on for having overly large teeth. She tried to ignore them- they didn't understand- but it always boiled down to her feeling like she was trying so hard to prove something to them.
But they could have cared less.
Even now, Hermione wondered exactly why she strived so hard for these perfect grades. Was it some kind of identity crisis? Of course, she had to be "the brainy girl" or who else was she? Plain, boring Hermione Granger.
She knows that Ron can see through her insecurities. He knows the real Hermione. The trouble is, Hermione doesn't know the real Hermione.
Ron can always sense the trouble in her. He can always sense things like that in people. He makes lists of reasons why he's in love with her: bravery, beauty, charm... the lists go on and on.
No, Hermione doesn't know who she is, but Ron does. And the way Hermione figures it, since he's not running away, she's not afraid of who she is or who she's going to become.
