A series of one shots from Eponine's and Enjolras's first meeting until there death. Set modern day and they live to a old age. This is my first Les Mis fic, I don't own it, it's Victor Hugo's fabulous invention. Not mine. I fell in love with this ship when I watched the film for the first time. I really want to read the book but its proving impossible to get. Enjoy. I know none of its in French, I only know Ballet terms I afraid.
I started this story nearly a year ago as of 22nd of June 2014. I read back and it was a bit crap so I am going to slowly change it chapter by chapter. Enjoy.
She was his shadow, always behind him, following him around like a lost puppy. He was the leader, the one with the voice, the words, he felt that it was his job to single handedly change the world, and sometimes acted like he would mind if he died while doing it. He never really paid much attention to her, until he noticed this she was always covered in bruises, cuts, every so often had a broken bone and always had dark rings under her large, bambi eyes, that not even concealer could cover.
Everyone called her The Shadow, because where ever Marius went she could always be counted on to be close behind. He asked around about her but no one seemed to know much, expect Grantaire and Gavroche. Taire just incoherently mumbled something about maybe sleeping with her. However Gavroche had reakly information for him, 'She's my sister, Enjolras, although we only met a few months ago'. Feeling like this was slightly wierd, Enjolras asked what he meant by the comment.
'I was sent away as a kid by our parents in and out of care my whole life, she found me after our parents told her where to find me, I live with her after she found me living on the streets, thanks to her I have a warm bed, food and a tv. We also have another sister who also lives with us, Azelma'. Gavroche gave him all the information he needed about Eponine. He decided to make an effort to talk to her when he saw her in Café Musain, instead of either ignoring her or gazing from afar.
Thursday night the Les Amis gather in the Café to talk about the protest against rising student fees, when Marius walks in, Eponine following closely behind as per normal. She sits at the table she always sits at in the corner of the Café and pretends to read her book. Enjolras toke a deep breath before standing and walks slowly over to her to ask her a question that he hopes she doesn't refuse 'Mademoiselle, can I buy you a drink?'.
' Monsieur, I wouldn't want to bother you in any way'.
'I insist'. She smiled and hesitated before answering 'Diet Coke please'. Enjolras smiles and gets a diet coke for Eponine and a beer for himself. He takes the drinks over to her table 'Can I sit down?'.
Looking up, Eponine replied 'Of course Monsieur'. He sat ignoring the cat calls and whistling from slightly drunk Courfeyrac, Combferre and a very drunk Grantaire. They both didn't notice the slightly jealous look from Marius, he was just jealous that Eponine was paying attention to someone else and not him.
They talk for the rest of the night without meaning to, they didn't notice how much time ran away from them. Enjolras found out that she is studying art and dance in university, she never did dance lessons as a kid, she just started dancing in her bedroom and found she was good at it. She was persuaded to follow the art route by an old teacher.
Eponine found out that Enjolras is studying classic English literature and the English language, because he was training to become an English teacher in secondary schools.
She confided that she was close with Gavroche and her younger sister Azelma and they lived with her, in hiding from her Mother, and her Father, when he gets out of prison for theft, under the surname Casida.
She found out that his parents didn't really care about him and he left home as soon as he could. He had older siblings, a sister, Adele, and a brother, Milou. His family hadn't talked to him since he was nineteen, because he got his brother sent down for drug possession. Eponine found out that Enjolras's real name was actually Tristan, rather than the Enjolras or Ras everyone else called him. Enjolras was his last name.
During their conversation, they realised they had a lot more in common than they originally believed. They both liked losing themselves in a novel, or a DVD. They were both big 'Harry Potter' fans, Eponine would have been Griffindor and Enjolras would have been Ravenclaw.
Enjolras left the café that night with a lot of things on his mind. He knew that Eponine wasn't the girl everyone thought she was. She was brave, a kind and could also stick up for herself when important. Everyone believed she didn't have a voice of her own, had no opinions or feelings about anything. He found out how wrong they all were, she loved things passionately and she also hated passionately. She either loved deeply or held deep hatred. Enjolras felt she was rather a spectacular person, on the inside and the outside.
Yes, over 1000 words!
Eponine is nineteen.
Enjolras is twenty one.
Gavroche is twelve.
Okay, so I added bits to it and took bits out, and I hope it made it better.
Love it? Hate it? Take to seconds to write me a review please. They make me happy. I'll carry on if there is enough interest. Thanks. Feel free to send me any prompts you want stories about.
