Chapter 1- Brownies
"And this would be your dorm room, Alex. If you have any question feel free to ask, this is a free environment. Make yourself at home and meet us in the dining room at five." The professor wheeled out, leaving Alex Summers in his new room. Alex Summers. It was so different...so new. It was appropriate for a new beginning at the Institute. "Dude, this is so cool. I am totally digging this." He murmured, throwing his suitcases onto his new bed. His room was huge, more than one hundred feet around; he just wondered who he'd be sharing it with. His room smelled fresh and summery, totally opposite to the salty and ageless smell of the ocean he was so used to. He walked over to the huge window that was adorning one whole wall, drowning the room in sunlight. Throwing open a panel, he stuck his sun bleached head out the window and surveyed his surroundings. Acres of land as far as he could see, but there was one thing that caught his eye. There was a gigantic swimming pool right underneath his window. His eyes widened. There was a body of water to be conquered, even if it just was a swimming pool. He laughed at himself, pulling his head back into the window. That was just sad when the Great Alex, Rider of the Waves, was determined to paddle around in the kiddy pool. "Man, that is totally a bummer. I am now a beach leach. Yuck." He looked back out the window. Water was water...Giving a whoop, he stripped down and threw on his swim trunks, frowning at how his skin had grown a tone lighter. Giving a yell, he took a leap out the window, landing into the pool with a perfect dive.
"Good thing you're on the first floor, huh?" Alex sputtered, and searched around for the voice, treading water. He laid eyes on a young girl with medium black hair and dark skin, lounging on the side. "Like, who are you? Man, I almost choked, like that is so uncool!" The girl rolled her eyes and slipped into the water, sitting on the submerged steps. "My name is Jubilation Lee. I'm sure Kitty will be glad she's not the only one who says 'like' in every sentence. Who are you?" Alex swam over to the steps and plopped down on them, giving a yawn. "I'm Alex Summers. I'm sure you know my big bro, Scott." Jubilation gave a snort and gave a fake cough which sounded a lot like 'airhead'. Alex sensed the hostility towards his older brother and felt a bit uncertain. He knew Scott was sorta a brownie but he thought he was still cool. What if everyone thought he was like Scott?! Instantly he felt his mind recoil at the thought of being labeled 'desperate valley brownie'. Feeling the need to defend his nonexistent reputation, his mind scrambled for something mature and dignified to say...it was hard for him to do under the circumstances. "Man, I am nothing like my bro! He is a total prissy and he's just desperate for a girlfriend. Now me, on the other hand..." He was silenced by a haughty look from Jubilation. "You have to earn your rep here. Until you do you will be labeled 'brownie' along with...us." Alex looked taken aback for a moment. "Who calls you brownies, Jubilation?" Jubilation chuckled and pushed a stay hair that was hanging in Alex's face behind his ear, making him blush slightly. "Most of the older kids do, except for Rogue and Kurt. Na, Rogue gets mad and calls us that too. Narrow it down to Kurt. He's pretty cool, except for the 'I love Kitty so much trance' he goes into whenever she walks by. Yuck." She looked thoughtful for a moment but started to talk again. "Oh, and by the way, you can just call me Jubilee. Jubilation sounds too...goody goody." Alex smiled. "Ok, 'Jubilee' how about a game of Marco Polo?" Jubilee closed her eyes. "You're on."
AN: Is it just me or do the younger X-kids get too little attention? Hm? I just like the sound of Alex and Jubilee together. It's different!
