Secret Love

This came to my mind and couldn't stop thinking about it!
It's short, but it's supposed to be.. It's ONE-SHOT.
I sat with Jasper in Carlisle's study. Both of us were reading, but we stole glances to each other, and when we would caught each other we would smile, and turn our gaze back to the book.
This is how it's been after I was turned into vampire, and after Jasper and I bonded little. Ten years ago.
We fell in love, but he still loved Alice, more than anything, and I loved Edward and Nessie more than anything, but still we loved each other too. He was like my second Jacob, but it wasn't painful. It felt more right. More peaceful.
It wasn't like with Jacob, when I had to decide which one I wanted. This was platonic love, but more than friend or sibling love. We both loved each other like we did for Edward and Alice, but less passion and fierce.
We never had kissed, we just pecked, when we were hunting alone. We couldn't betray our mates like that. But if they would die, my heart ached at the thought, we would be together.
''Are you alright?'' Jasper asked gently. ''I just got a heart ache from you.''
''I just thought about my life without Edward'', I whispered.
He came to sit next to me and hugged me gently.
''Stop thinking about it'', he said gently. ''He's here and alive and well, and he loves you. You had a happily ever after, as did I with Alice.'' A small smile played in both of us lips.
''Yeah, we really got our happily ever after'', I said smiling.
He smiled back, and we started reading again.
''They are made from the same wood'', Alice whispered to Edward.
''Yeah, they like the same things and they are both happy just being each others company'', he whispered back.
''I'm happy that got along that well, but sometimes it seems like they are hiding something from us'', she told.
There was silence.
''You're right, but I'm sure it's nothing bad, Alice'', Edward comforted Alice.
She sighed. ''They aren't like that.''
Jasper and I looked at each other and smiled.
''You know that we can hear you, Alice and Edward?'' I told them.
''Oops!'' they both said at the same time.
Jasper and I laughed.
Maybe we weren't meant to be together, but we loved each other, and we were happy just to be together. Read together, or hunt together. We didn't mean anything else from each other. And we knew that we couldn't give each other more than this.
They are NOT cheating Alice and Edward.. Just so you know!
