*AUTHOR'S NOTE* Hi all! :) This just came to me when I sat down to write for my other story. It started out as something different and came out like this. Just a short drabble. Please enjoy and tell me what you think! :) Oh and I'm also looking for a Beta… So if anyone is interested in beta-ing my other story, please send me a message! Thanks!
Disclaimer: Seeing as I'm American, a female, and young enough to be Mr. Horowitz's daughter, I'm going to say, no, I don't own Alex Rider.
Alex stepped out of the shower, a towel wrapped securely around his waist. Water droplets dripped from his hair landing on his shoulders and making small trails down his chest and back. Sometimes the trails would detour around some of his more prominent scars; reminders of how close each brush with death truly was. Amidst all his other scars, in pride of place, just a few centimeters above his heart was a small round, puckered scar with a line leading up and one leading down; the place where SCORPIA had sniped him and where the doctors had performed emergency surgery to save his life.
Alex stood in the bathroom, staring at himself in the mirror, examining each and every mark, reminding himself just how lucky he had been. With each mission They sent him, a piece of him self was lost. This last one really took a toll on him. As soon as he returned, he had sent Jack packing, back to America with a trusted undercover agent where she would be safe. He knew what the consequences for himself would be, Jack was no longer there to stand up for him; he had also made a deal with MI6 and the CIA to insure Jack's continued safety. He was now at the mercy of both government agencies and they had not hesitated to use him. Each mission was progressively more dangerous than the last. They were sending him on suicide missions, where the chances of survival were slim. Some days he just wanted to give up, give in to the temptation to just let everything end. However, each scar was like a wake up call. Something saying, you've gotten this far, survived this much, you can make it another day. You can continue on. And so he did, one step at a time.
*AN* Thanks again for reading! Don't forget to review and tell me what you think :)
