Disclaimer: I don't own the poem, Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost, or Doctor Who.
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
He was Chin Boy then, and her last words to him were always, "Run you clever boy, and remember." She was Oswin Oswald the genius dalek, Clara Oswin Oswald the Victorian nanny, and totally, 100% Clara Oswald the human. She was so young, so full of light, and glowing with an aura of gold. He was so old, so full of years, and fading, but never quite gone.
Her early leaf's a flower
But only for an hour.
They ran everywhere together, meeting the famous, messing up time lines, discovering mysteries, and sometimes nearly crashing planes. The two of them were like a flower just unfurling its petals, feeling the light for the first time. She gave some of that the glowing gold, and he gave her some gravity to hold onto, and stories to always hold.
The stuck together, the Doctor and Clara Oswald, in the T.A.R.D.I.S, travelling forever. She stayed with him, even when he changed his face, and he stayed with her, despite all her human mistakes. However, slowly, but surely, he could feel the gravity she needed from him being shared with another, Danny Pink.
Then leaf subsides to leaf
And Eden sank to grief.
However, tragedy always befalls more than once. Clara changed. It wasn't her face, like him, but in her attitude, the way she treated everything. Gravity can only be in effect as long it's there, and Clara Oswald had only half of the ground she'd held before. The Doctor was worried, but she started getting better, perhaps, hopefully regaining some of the golden shine. Some of that human she'd started with.
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay.
But he forget something about humans. Something very big, very huge, and very important. The reason why some of them shine so gold. Gold meant many things- there were reasons that it was one of Gryffindor's colors. It shone for love, for hope, for courage- and also for bravery. Bravery that people admired in each other, bravery that was needed for good, bravery that she had. Bravery that walked in hand in hand with compassion, and caring. Bravery that had caused the end of Clara Oswald, the Impossible Girl.
Let me be brave.
In the end, she was brave. In the end, she was golden. She'd received her wish, but in the end, he suspected it wasn't his permission she'd needed.
"Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to to hold
Her early leaf's a flower
But only for an hour
Then leaf subsides to leaf
And Eden sank to grief
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay."
Nothing Gold Can Stay, Robert Frost
Hey guys. I just recently watched Face the Raven, and honestly, I think I cried harder in that episode then I have in any other episode, including Doomsday, and the last episode with the Ponds and Journey's End. This was my little tribute to Clara, who was probably one of the most disputed companions. No matter how much you hated her, you can't but help admit she was brave in her last moments. Last moments count in the mind of a fanperson, right?
Well, please review and favorite, and I hope you liked this. If you didn't, I'd be glad to hear my room for improvement. :D Thanks for letting me brave in posting this, ~GriffinGirl8655
